Markgugs' thread about wireless internet on the shitter got me thinking.

How many people don't have a problem stealing somebodies wireless signal?

Technically it isn't illegal anywhere I know of, and if people aren't willing to put up the proper security . . .

I wouldn't ever tap into their actual network, but I would use thier internet signal.

I'm no technical genius, but as long as I have a good firewall they can't actually see me can they?

if they don't have the proper security set up, then they aren't smart enough to realize you are mooching. I used to go home with my laptop and run bittorrent on their wireless the whole time. Then I finally felt bad so I went to their house and said "you realize any sneaky bastard, such as myself, can get you in a load of shit right cause your wireless is wide open right? I'll secure it for you for 20 bucks." 5 mins later, 20 bucks and I left.

I could if I wanted to, but I obviously don't need to...

It's amazing how many people don't take the 5 minutes required to learn how to properly encrypt & protect their network.

There are at least 3 wireless networks in my neighborhood I could "piggyback" if I wanted to.

linksys router "quick start guide" page 6. "Securing your Wireless Network". If you can't be bothered to do it, you deserve to have me plundering your bandwidth. Sailing the wireless high seas... ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR....

yeah, it'll be in the wireless portion. Just use MAC address filtering. who cares if they can see what you're doing, just need to keep them from being able to leach off you. I'll post some screenshots at home.

I will look into it when I get back home tomorrow.

By the way, before I left I faced a really crappy issue, maybe someone can help.

I did some Windows updates and got an update for my soundblaster drivers, C-MEDIA AC97 (onboard shit), after that it did not work, and nothing I did helped. (Code 10 - Device cannot start).

I had to change my password several times because I thought someone was hacking my wireless connection... I used simple passwords so they weren't really hard to discover. now I'm using a pretty complex password and I don't have the feeling somone is stealing brandwith. But, someone who was in the same complex as me, glued a paper on the main door saying that because of brandwith thefts, their internet bill got to 200$. Eh... the idiots, it's their fault for not making their network secure.

i still get confused and angry when dealing with cellphones. i mean, my god man, it's a phone! WITH NO WIRES!!!

i just don't like phones. Cellphones are just a way to drag your phone around with you, hence I leave it off and only use it for calling out such as "dude, WHER THE FUCK ARE YOU?" or "I WON'T BE COMING HOME TONIGHT"... and the odd "DUDE! I MET SOME TOTALLY FUCKING HAMMERED SCOTTISH METALHEAD! IT WAS GREAT!"
