Stem cells FTW!!

I know, however it's not quite as simple as just put them wherever and they fucking turn into it.
That's why this research is noteworthy.....if it was as simple as you say then this wouldn't be a big deal at all.

There seems to be misinformation about stem cells.

Firstly there are many types of stem cells and it not the case that any stem cell can turn into any type of cell. For example the stem cells in your bone marrow mainly turn into Red Blood Cells, Phagocytes and some types of body tissue.

Basically stem cells contain all the genes necessary to differentiate (turn into) the types of cells needed, but in order to make them useful, i.e the type of stem cells needed, in this instance for growing skin, they need to be isolated so that they can be used.

Finally it's often the case that the treatments themselves aren't too expensive to carry out at a hospital, however they are expensive because the company that developed the treatment needs to recoup their research, development, clinical trial and licensing funds that were used to make the treatment viable and successful. This is why new treatments are expensive, however once the patents run out (after 20 years) on the treatment the cost drops because now any medical company can develop their own version and often the company has made it's money back (of course with profit), take paracetamol for example, now it's relatively cheap to buy but that wasn't the case when it first was released.

That is amazing. Apparently that video is part of program that is coming out on National Geographic about stem cell research. I want to see the whole show now.
