Not sure this is the greatest idea but that's possibly the only one the could work.

This may actually make me want to check out the US version of The Office

love will ferrel

I can't say I like Will Ferrel. Sceptical on where the show is going to go from here, but I guess 7 seasons in it's bound to get harder to keep the same standard of comedy as the first couple of seasons. Michael Scott gelled the show together; this will either break the show or re-invigorate it, no doubt.

Do it. It's pretty good and gets better after the second season. They succeeded in making something of their own without desecrating the UK version.

I've watched every season and to me, the humor never gets old and I'm not a huge fan of his movies but carell is great as michael scott. It's a shame he's leaving. Ferrell wouldn't be my first choice and they're gonna need to pull out some seriously funny shit to convince me.

I actually have grown to hate Steve Carell, if I'm honest. He can only play one character, with one or two exceptions, and that guy gets *really* old after a while.

+1, the first season was a bit lame in comparison as it was just a copy of the British one, but after that it took on it's own identity and is better to me if only for the character development/relatable qualities that I felt like the UK version didn't have.

The Office could use more Creed.

Also +1! He is by far the funniest character on that show!

Not to the degree that Steve Carell does, IMO. He's like the Denzel Washington of comedians.

I think it's because Steve Carrell plays in a series so his character gets much more exposure than other comedians, which apparently somewhere during the 7 seasons got on your nerves ;).

You can't really tell me that, for example, Will Ferrell isn't exactly the same character in every movie he is in...

Isn't that true for most comedians though? Like ............, ............, ............, ..........., Ben Stiller etc. (I like all of them btw)

i agree. but some days ago, i coincidentally zapped into a movie where he played a junkie. convincing.
that at least showed he has some real actor quality.
forgot the title unfortunately.

Little Miss Sunshine (he´s actually suicidal on that movie)? Comedians are underated. IMO Will Ferrell did a great job on Stranger Than Fiction.

Ughhh, I can't stand 99% of what Will Ferrel does, we'll see how he handles the office. I'm scared.

No, I mean from his stints on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, 40 Year Old Virgin, Anchorman, Bruce Almighty, Get Smart, Date Night, Dinner with Schmucks, etc... The only thing I've ever liked him in was, as mentioned, Little Miss Sunshine.

I don't like Will Ferrel for the same reasons - pretty much the same guy all the time, but his dramatic bits have been awesome.

I've never really liked Ben Stiller, but I disagree with Adam Sandler being the same guy in every movie.

I guess my point is that with Carell it's something I've distinctly noticed and come to hate - other comedians may have similar qualities in their characters, but it's not so overly saturated that it's glaringly obvious to me as it is with Carell, Denzel Washington, Ben Stiller, etc.

Will Ferrell > Steve Carell, IMO. Jeff has a great point that both actors tend to do the same basic character in every role they do, generally speaking. That said, I think Ferrell is better at it. I, for one, am nowhere near sick of Talladega Nights or Anchorman to date and I have seen them both a zillion times, just never get old to me for whatever reason. The only thing with Carell that I can watch over and over is The Office, I can't watch any of his movies more than a couple of times before it's not funny any more. But that's just me - everyone is different when it comes to comedians.

NBC has not officially announced if there will be another season of The Office yet, this may be the last one, who knows. The ratings could go up quite a bit with Ferrell in these last 4 episodes and it may entice NBC to go for one more season. I would actually love to see a whole season with Ferrell at the helm, given that the 4 episodes he has signed on for turn out to be good - which I don't doubt they will be.
