Not sure if there's any Steve Morse fans out there. He's the founder of the Dixie Dregs and played with Deep Purple and Kansas. He did this song for Guitar's Practicing Musicians Vol 2 back in 1991 and I pull out that CD from time to time to listen to this. I decided to make a slideshow to the song and uploaded it to you tube. If you enjoy acoustic pieces I'm sure you'll enjoy the song.

BTW that is me and the Mrs in the 2nd slide from our trip to Chichen Itza, the most famous mayan ruins in Mexico. Theres also some pictures from Tulum and various other scenic pictures.

A) This past week, Warner Archives released mega expanded anniversary reissues of Come Taste The Band and Deepest Purple. I don't quite get the latter, but the EPK for it is necessary to watch (find it on Youtube)

B) At Steve Morse's concert last year, he said they were writing for a followup to Rapture of the Deep. They should be recording it soon.

In June Don Airey was quoted in the Belfast Telegraph as saying the band would return to the studio "really soon", as they are bursting with ideas for a new album. But no official word beyond that, so far as I know.

I had the privelege to see the Dixie Dregs live in Norfolk VA in 1980 when Andy West was still the bassist. And Dave is a fellow New Jersey guy, I once saw his band STRETCH at Zaffy's in Piscataway.

I hadn't had the pleasure to meet either of them until this past January at NAMM. Dave had already been made aware of me by a mutual long time friend, a mastering engineer. I picked up the latest Steve Morse CD and some od Dave's stuff when I caught their show after hours on Thursday night at a club.

I listened to the CD enroute to NAMM the next day and loved the song titled FLIGHT OF THE OSPREY. Not only was it a great tune but it conveyed the feel of flight. Hence a perfect example of song title matching song feel.

When I saw Steve that day, I complimented him and asked him if, by chance, he had written the song not about the bird, but about the OSPREY aircraft that went into use by the Navy and Marines about 6 years ago. I am a big military afficionado and this is what came to mind. And guess what? He said "Absolutely yes." And he proceeded to tell me the story of why he wrote it. If anyone wants me to convey it let me know. I have taken up too much space already....

"Picture This" is a beautiful song. Morse is one of my all-time favorites. I've had the pleasure of seeing him with Deep Purple, the Dixie Dregs, and his solo band a few times each. His style of playing was ahead of its time for the late 70s, and it still holds up with the playing styles of today. On a final note, I'm pleased to hear that Deep Purple will be working on a new album, as I loved "Bananas" and "Rapture Of The Deep."

Stay metal. Never rust.

Thank you for the comments. Totally agree with Met-Al, Picture this is one of my favorite acoustic pieces.

I've had the pleasure of seeing Deep Purple and it's definitely a show to be seen!

I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Dregs open for Dream Theater twice (ATL and Orlando). Although my friends and I were all pretty serious DT fans back then, after Dregs' set we were all saying "Dream who?" GREAT set.
And Steve was pretty cool when we saw him walking around near the HoB in Orlando. He had flown his aircraft down from Atlanta, bringing along some from DT also.

As for Steve's own work, I have several CDs, but his High Tension Wires remains one of my Top 5 instrumental CDs ever.
