Unnecessary!

It's a very uninspired and cold/motionless cover by people who're obviously incredibly talented. The orchestral section in the middle doesn't even sound good.

Unimpressed.

I have to agree. Vai sounds good and Mary's got pipes but it just doesn't work overall. I'm extremley biased as the original is my all-time favorite song and I truely believe noone other than Great White should ever touch it.

You're talking about a tribute,remake, whatever..?
IMO.. You have a great RnB artist who is singing and really great
guitarist playing a song out of respect to a legendary rock band, whom many have GROWN up with and/or have listened to that band for long time.....? I say great job kinda makes the Heart version look kind of weak heh.

Wait a minute - Heart version? Where is that? I've heard them do fantastic versions of "Rock and Roll," "Black Dog," "Misty Mountain Hop" and an unbelievable cover of "The Battle of Evermore" but I've never heard them do "Stairway."

Listen to it and listen to it again!! way better as you go....and then some heh

I love Steve Vai, but I don't own one CD of his, weird. I just don't enjoy listening to instrumental discs. With that said, I belive I'm the only Whitesnake fan on the planet that loves Slip of the Tongue. Vai made that disc!

You not alone. Slip of the Tongue was a good album. I did hear Mary J. Bliege sing Stairway and totally feels that this was unnecessary. I love Led Zep and it is cool when Heart or other musicians who truly love and listen to Led Zep does a cover but this version and the hype it is getting is crazy. I was only glad that she did not Mary-nize it and kept it close to the original as she could.
