Does anyone else find his shit boring and a total wankfest? Some of my buddies totally worship him, his dog and his penis to a depressing level... even shittered the other night I thought he was boring so I went and lay down by myself and passed out.

i used to be a wankery fan but nowadays it bores me out of my mind
i used to worship bands like dream theater and rising force but now id only listen to them for nostalgia. actually, i wouldnt - cant - listen to dream theater at all.

wierd. labrie is about the only one i can stand anymore. and thats because he was on ayreerereryon's latest effort.
i didnt even bother with octavarium or whatever. didnt even know when it came out.

Depends on the material...

Passion & Warfare is probably THE guitar album of all time (for a solo musician as opposed to a band collaboration).

His work on the "Crossroads" movie is outstanding, especially "Eugene's Trick Bag".

He stole the show on Whitesnake's "Slip of the Tongue" where "Sailing Ships" is one of the greatest songs ever.

His work on DLR's "Skyscraper" and "Eat 'em and Smile" is great -- check out "Hot Dog and a Shake".

So I don't really agree, but I will give you this - aside from Passion & Warfare, Steve Vai is better off playing in a band whether it be Dave Lee Roth, Whitesnake, or Sex & Religion.

I never ever liked Dream Theater...but the "Rising Force" debut is still seriously phemonenal. It's timeless. I bet if you threw on "Far Beyond the Sun" on a whim, you'd still be blown away!

allright. true. but i couldnt think of any other wankers when i posted that.
rising force rules. i had trilogy on cassette. the one where he slays a dragon with fire coming out of his guitar hahahaha dont laugh, he really did that.

I agree with all this, and I'd like to add that his album about Aliens or whatever was pretty sweet.

Passion & Warfare is just a damn classic, though.

I DO think Vai has a tendency to go overboard when he's on his own (thus like said earlier, he's much better off in a band setting), but for the most part I enjoy his stuff.. well, the older stuff anyway, I haven't really given much chance to anything past Fire Garden.

What he said. "Passion & Warfare" is in my all-time Top 10.
