i'm i the only one who likes his tone? everyone i talked to hates it, its 10x better then satch, but Jp has the best tone ever, and alex lifeson has a killer tone also

I like it. I have to say Joe plays more gracefully though along with great tone(example: The Extremist). But Steve is still my fave of the two. Both rock my chickens socks.
I prefer Satches tone quite a bit more. Sounds more natural.
In Vai's favour though, his tone ensures every single note cuts through.

I absolutely love Vai's guitar work on PIL's Compact Disc (or Album, depenfing on your format of choice). I don't think Vai has ever been better.

Satch has the more organic tone and only uses a few boxes to obtain his signature sound.
Vai on the otherhand has a full rack of effects and a signature amp to deliver his tone..
Although I love both tones if you have seen both guitarists live it is actually Satch who has the more powerfull tone.. the basic tone of his guitars really shines through.. and he has a looser feel which I really like.. Vai can be TOO technical at times..

Shred, what kind of guitar is that in your sig? Is it a Tom Anderson? If so, my guitar teacher has a guitar similar to that model with the same finish.
