Straight Opposition - Step By Step

Sometimes, the fact that we at Ultimate Metal have to write no less than 200 words about each album we review has me climbing the walls. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy writing - I'm not some kind of bizarre literary masochist that got into this just to torture myself by doing something I hate. No, it's just the fact that sometimes, you need far fewer words to describe a release. I think I may have mentioned this problem in my review for Dark Remains' recent release, Planet Earth Scourged. For instance, all I really have to say about this release is the following: average tough-guy hardcore album.
See? You already know what it sounds like. I don't have to go into any great detail describing the simplistic, up-tempo, double-kick heavy drum patterns and mid-tempo beatdowns, the monotone shouted vocals (occasionally spiced up with gang-vocal choruses), the almost exclusively power-chord-centric riffage, the short track lengths, the general adrenalised homogeneity of it all. You can probably hear the tracks in your head already. About the only variables in this genre are whether rapping is included (yep, on one track), whether the production is any good (yep, meaty guitar tone and punchy drums abound), and where the band are from (Italy, thanks for asking).
So... Errrr... Yeah, that's about all I got. Nice weather we're having lately, isn't it? Oh yeah, December... I forgot.
