STREET TEAMERS UNITE! -share ideas here!

MEGALOUD

The Nightmare Has Begun..
instead of doing this via email I would like to direct everyone to the Nightmare forum so we can discuss ideas and bounce them off each other
for ways to spead the word, looking more for things you guys can do on your own, but also feedback as to what you think Nightmare as a label
should or could do to grow.

We now have PROTOTYPE on the new GUITAR HERO III game and it's been a very cool kudo for the band, but as of this date,
I've not seen a direct link that it has helped their sales thus far. However it could certainly happen.

The idea I like is the fact that ANY one of you could easily put together little interesting video's of your own for YOUTUBE with any band
and song you like from our releases to help promote them. Be creative youtube is really a huge market and making real videos for this is expensive business
however we are doing our best to see if we can do some things to help our bands in this fashon.

OK for all STREET TEAM POSTS....I'm starting a new thread on the NIGHTMARE FORUM that will be a sticky
and at the top of the page.

The FORUM page for all your ideas etc should be here, however if you have anything you'd like to contact me about directly
you may send me an email to this account. I don't check the PM on ULTIMATE METAL that often.
If you would also post the link to our forum on any pages this would also help us, the link to our main website would as well.
Links to the new P2P discussion thread on the Progpower forums, may bring some awareness to the situation artists and labels
are facing as well in the changing climate.

All our links are below,
if you all would like a list of all our bands links for the street team pages, they should be on our label myspace pages
if not, a simple google search should help you locate any you are missing.

Please use this link to find all our current and past artists (roster)
and a little about them,

I can send those that are working on the new page code for all the album cover art and links to Amazon for the new pages.

best,
Lance

I may be able to help out with the myspace page – Ive been in training for work lately so my time has been crunched – but Ill let you know shortly.

Diggin the gif – Ill get it up on my page asap.

Speaking of which – do you need any help with graphics or the like? I do a lot of that sorta thing in my spare time and I certainly don’t mind whipping up some stuff for Nightmare if you need/want it. Im fairly adept in basic Flash animations – I cant pull off the funky ones with lots of coding – but simple animated flash movies with music/sfx I can do. If you’re interested – check out my old site http://www.destination-unknown.net/ - just a gallery of some of my work and whatnot.

Let me know what you’re thinking for the myspace page and Ill bounce back ideas.

Gonna whip up a kickass Nightmare sig here soon. =D

I can vouch for Ripperjack's totally rawkin abilities! Lance, use this guy! :D

I like the idea of making YouTube videos! I bet I can do something basic, in the east, with pictures and whatnot with a song playing. I see this all the time on youtube as a way for people to hear the songs and to get the band a little more exposure.

Street Team members can also write reviews/comments about each new disc we receive and post them on the various forums here at UM, our personal blogs/myspace/livejournal/last.fm pages, and also on merchandise sites like Amazon.com, et al, that have places for customer comments. All too often, there is nothing for a potential buyer to base their decision on at websites like that.

Last.fm - killer site for checking out new music and getting your friends to listen too! In the very least you can get the band name stuck in people's heads, so even if the band's music isn't uploaded on last.fm, people will still be interested when they DO have a chance to hear the bands. I will start editing/elaborating/flourishing the artist pages for all the Nightmare bands on last.fm, but I need ya'lls help too! When you see a NMR band on Last.fm, go to their page and leave a comment, vote on pictures, and leave tags - ALL of this helps people discover these bands and inform of them for future purposes. Lance, I recommend that you get a Label account at Last.fm so that you can attach your name to all the band profiles too. Also, when you have a last.fm account, EVERYTHING you play gets displayed to your friends and also 50 random "neighbors" every week. Neighbors are people who have a similar music taste to you. This playlist can also be displayed in "widgets" for myspace, livejournal, UM forums, etc.. the point, you ask? People really DO pay attention to these "widgets" and when they see you playing NMR bands all the time, they'll be more likely to check them out themselves or think to, "man, I see this band name *everywhere* I should really listen to them!" (basic sociology)

Another idea.. we can each make small handbill fliers with information about NMR or the particular bands in the latest Street Team package. These can be 1/4 page basic info fliers that can be passed out at ANY venue, CD shop, vintage store, skate shop, smoke/head shop, coffeehouses, college campuses, or anywhere else music-lovers hang out & shop. Get as creative as you want, but make sure your information isn't "time-sensitive" unless you don't want to use it after that time. For instance, if a band has a tour, you can list all the tour dates on the flier but as soon as the last date of the tour is completed that flier should not be used again. If you city's date was at the beginning of the tour, it's okay to use it after your show because people frequently travel these days or could have friends in other cities that would be interested in the show. If a band has an upcoming CD release that you are advertising, be sure to replace that flier with one that doesn't advertise a date in the past. Why? Because it looks unprofessional, sloppy, and like we're not on top of things. Big-time bands do NOT recycle their fliers, they get new ones because they know it's important and makes them look "current".. and that's exactly what we want people to think about a NMR flier - "Wow, look at this band - they must be pretty cool and successful, not some crappy no-name band. I should check them out" (basic psychology)

Fliers can also be "general info" on a band/NMR and can be used at any time, in any venue. Use a picture of the band, slap their logo on it, add a thumbnail of their latest disc and a few review quotes like you see in magazines, add their website and myspace, throw on the NMR logo & web address - save - print - cut into 1/4 - VOILA!! :)

Okay.. I always have ideas, but there are a few that have worked for me in the past. Heck it got my bands quite a bit of attention on the local level. There is a lot we can do to get these bands noticed and heard on a national scale, but it's also vital that we all saturate our own cities at a local level so these bands have pocket markets for future tours! If we all work together, and help recruit new members from our own areas and also new regions, then we can start to cover more territory and thus more eyes in each market! :headbang:

We can do this!! Let's hit the streets hard and gear up for a killer year in 2008!!

Hello there, i finally got it and now i am here too. You all got cool ideas and i am sure that we all will create something amazing. Well from my side i would like to open up a street team page via myspace for NIghtmare Records and i also would like to open up a space for Nightmare Records on my private side to make promotion for them there.

What do people on the street team do....

so my short reply was this,

but your on the right track with your blog,
we like folks to review our discs and spread the word on major metal sites as well as places like itunes, amazon, cdbaby and myspace, forums etc.
Request the bands songs on internet radio stations, and local rock stations around the globe and hand out sampler CD's, to friends, local radio, your favorite CD stores, and at local shows and concerts.... etc.

anyone else want to give them some ideas?

The idea of writing reviews and spread them is a very good idea i think. And as i visit mostly local shows it would be a good idea to spread the word about all the bands there also.

Are there any Street team Pages at myspace lately?

And if so everyone in their area could maybe open up one if they got the persmission by you (Lance). And there we can promote all the stuff on Nightmare Records and the Bands etc. Posting our reviews there too and can spread all the news via bulletin.

Susi

Rocket Queen,
I sent out a request for folks to volenteer to put together a myspace street team page on myspace, you and Bobbie have graciously accepted to help set this up, and that is great, I forwarded the image to use as the profile image to everyone, I'll put you and Bobbie in contact . There are banners for both the Nightmare label artist on our label page, and also the independents that we are pushing from our Distro page, these should both be incorporated into the page with clipable code, which I can send you guys.

Perhaps it would be easier if I just start the page, incorporate some of the things I want into them and then give the street team the access to the back end, some to help develop the page and others could help by promoting the page to metal fans, radio stations, magazines, other pages etc.

Hi Lance, thanks for the support. That sounds great.... Yeah you are right would be better if you start the street team pages so that all are unitary and all that you want is enclosed. Thanks for sending out the codes as well. Susi

My Aol Browser and Explorer also crashes and i couldnt visit the site properly. I try via Firefox ;-)

I have it pulled up right now. It pulled up alright but when I try to scroll, it starts clocking for quite sometime... when it stops and I try to scroll again, it clocks again for a long time.

Hello all... i downloaded Mozialla Firefox (for free) and with this browser its working properly! Thanks Lance for this suggestion.

The Foxfire download fixed it for me too... Thanks Rocket Queen and Lance.
Oh, love it!!! I hate waiting!

I updated my myspace page with some of the new banners and links!

I also want to add my player from Super Society with just Nightmare artists, from CD's I have purchased. Can I put any of the songs I like on there or should I only put certain ones on there... this always bothers me, I don't want to step on toes.

lol... I admit that I am very slight of mind when it comes to this stuff. I just wanna help and have not in this area except for internet stations I listen to.

When you (Lance) send stuff out to us street teamers... what information is sent... CD and a mini advert with links on it? I really liked the idea of sending it to friends/family et cetera and they need to tell 5 (or 10) other people about it if they liked what they heard.

I don't know how stations get the music they have. Do they pick out what they want to play or are samples sent to them or do they get it via MP3 files via internet or email. Internet stations are easier to request most of them I know of have your music.

For regular radio... like the Powerloon.. a station for St. Cloud and one for Bemidji. (you probably know who that is) they play almost anything... Would I request a sample CD from you to send to them with some kind of information on the artists? Is there somewhere to get information for a small flyer to include it or is those things included in a packet or through a download?

I saw another street team that had water bottles created with an artists advert on it and handed them out at an event. Thought that was cool (literally)!

Thanks Susi, looks good, can you put the band banners up there from the page too? That would be great stuff!

Penny, we service radio that is offering a format that is what we are doing and accepting indie stuff, the major networks have everything pretty sewn up and own most of the media out there, and have some affiliation or are just owned by bigger companies that only allow certain companies to play ball there.
IT's a major monopoly unfortunately that Pres. Clinton helped to build when he decentralized the laws regarding media and purchases of this nature.

Now there are only 4 major networks, and 3 indie networks like CMJ, ALBUM NETWORK, FMQB, the major networks are DISNEY / CLEAR CHANNEL and a few others that I've not bothered to look up their names. There used to be hundreds of indie's that would play whatever they liked and helped keep music interesting, now it's become so rediculously homogenized, however it's opened up the other options like Internet radio, itunes radio, radio365, and Sat. radio like XM these are the new frontier right now, and the street team could most certainly be requesting Nightmare artists on key stations~!

:headbang:

Thanks to all!

Hey Lance - Well i thought the band-links on the pages are only the ones to the amazon-stores?
