At the risk of getting all medical here, strep throat is caused by a different strain of streptococcal bacteria than the "flesh eating" syndrome

They are both Group A Streptococci, and are very, very similar. It's not exactly the same bug, no.

A virus can't be caused by bacteria... Apples and oranges. In fact scientists are barely able to agree on the notion that viruses are even living organisms.

Actually, all intelligent scientists agree that viruses are NOT living things. To be an organism, you have to carry out the basic activities of life: growth, respiration, metabolism, and reproduction. The only one of these that viruses do is reproduce -- and they don't even reproduce on their own; they need the hardware in your cells to do it.
