STRYPER

Yep, big fan here since the Y&BA E.P. I've seen them many, many, times over the years and they have always been an excellent live band. Fave albums are 'Soldiers' & 'To Hell w/ the Devil'. I've always been a bigger fan of Michael Sweet's playing compared to Oz Fox. I have always said, and I firmly believe it, if they hadn't 1-been a Christian band & 2-hadn't had the whole yellow & black stripes gimmicky thing they would have been much bigger. They were one of the best & most talented bands of that era...great songs and great chops.

Thanks for telling it like it is, dude, but you're preachin' to the choir, brutha!.:notworthy:kickass:

Big fan here! Got to see them on at Cornerstone Festival in 2001, that was a real treat! I had all four original members sign my mint-condition "To Hell With the Devil" vinyl with the original artwork; the gem of my vinyl collection. My favorite song of their's would have to be the title track from that disc or "Loud and Clear!"

I also like a lot of Michael's solo material. In fact, his s/t album was the very first disc in my mountain of Christian rock, metal, and industrial music. "Real" is my favorite accomplishment of his solo career; that title track, imo, is profound.

Glad to see other fans here too! I've always thought it would be fun to dress as the band for Halloween, but can you believe I can't find 3 other people that want to wear yellow & black spandex? :p

Right on! "Real" is my favorite MS song, for sure. I've seen Stryper play live twice so far, both shows at CenterStage. Great live band! Been a fan for 22 years now!

I used to love this band back in the day. I saw them once in 1987 when I was a senior in high school. HURRICANE was the opening band. My buddy that went with me caught one of the bibles they tossed out. I actually loved the gimmicky black and yellow striped shit. That made them different from everyone else. I wish they still did it.

Favorite song: "The Way", heavier and faster than most of their contemporaries. I totally agree with the guy who said if they had dropped the silly clothes and overt Christianity they would be bigger than they were.

I never saw them, but used to cover a couple of their songs in a band when I was a senior in HS back in 1987. I can't remember exactly what songs we played anymore though! Pretty sure they were off THwtD. I was really into thrash and crazier stuff back then, but the band I was playing in did a bunch of hair metal stuff! I did like the fact that they played Jackson guitars at the time.

I like a lot of thier songs...some are kinda cheesy, but they're very good musicians & Michael Sweet is a monster vocalist!

Favorite songs:

More Than A Man
Calling On You
Soldiers Under Command
Surrender
The Reign
Lonely
Always There For You
Free
Shining Star (cover)
All For One
Two Bodies (One Mind One Soul)

Right on, Shawn! I could see your band opening for Stryper!

Great band. Saw them for the first time in 2005 at BB Kings in NYC w/ my cousin, both of us just went cause it was a metal show, neither one of us owned a Stryper album. We were so blown away that a month later we both happened to end up at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park not knowing the other one was going and we had brought other people with us. The music is just top notch and it is an amazing show the whole way through. I cannot wait to see them again. "The Way" and "Soldiers Under Command" are my favorite songs. "The Way" is just so heavy, they started playing that in Asbury Park and some husky guy in a Slayer shirt started going nuts and wanted to form a pit, the audience looked very worried so I gave him a high five and head banged with him and it was all good hahahaha.

Not a fanatic, but I do like some of their songs including Makes Me Wanna Sing, Holding On, and especially Believe.

Right in our neck of the woods:

80s rock legends Twisted Sister will headline a concert benefiting the Station Family Fund on Monday, Feb. 25, at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, in Providence. Also on the bill will be Tom Scholz, former guitarist of the multi-platinum rock group Boston; Aaron Lewis, the frontman of Staind; and metal bands Tesla and Stryper. Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider will host the show, and the bill will also include Carmine Appice’s SLAMM, Eric Martin, Gary Hoey and former Chicago drummer Danny Seraphine.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow and range from $41 to $61. They can be had at www.ticketmaster.com. The show is being organized by the Station Family Fund, a nonprofit organization founded by survivors of the Station fire committed to providing survivor relief, including costs of ongoing treatment and rehabilitation; and by The Wake Up to Love Foundation, a nonprofit set up by Tesla drummer Troy Luccketta. All proceeds will go to the Station Family Fund.

I saw them on that tour. And I caught one of their Bibles, too.

We saw them recently in Detroit and thought they still sounded great, even though their last album was a steaming pile that didn't do them justice.

I'd see them again.

Yep, I was a huge fan back in the stay and still have a soft spot for them. I still have the original tape version of "The Yellow & Black Attack" from circa 1984. I also still have the bible I caught during the same 1988 tour with Hurricane Emerald Sword & Bill refer to above.

My personal favorite tracks:

Loud n' Clear
Reason for the Season
You Know What to Do
Soldiers Under Command
Surrender
Their version of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" (anthemic as hell)
Basically the whole "To Hell With the Devil" album (just a fantastic release)
The Reign
Two Time Woman
Two Bodies (One Mind One Soul)
Lady
Believe

Back in the day, I strolled into my local metal shop and asked my buddy who worked there for something new. He suggested Stryper and when I balked( not knowing anything about them) he played me Their version of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and I was sold.

I pulled some out the other day to share with my daughter who is getting into rock/metal and she was a bit puzzled when she saw their pictures. “Why did they look like that” she said.
