Back in the day, I strolled into my local metal shop and asked my buddy who worked there for something new. He suggested Stryper and when I balked( not knowing anything about them) he played me Their version of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and I was sold.![]()
FatesFan said:I pulled some out the other day to share with my daughter who is getting into rock/metal and she was a bit puzzled when she saw their pictures. Why did they look like that she said.![]()
Awesome - I love stories like that where an appreciation for a band happens as the result of mere chance rather than recommendations or research, etc.
Heh, I have a story of my own. When I first bought "THWtD" at about age 12-13, I played it extremely loud while hanging out in my parents' basement. At the end of the title track, when Sweet belts out "DEVIL!!, DEVIL!!!!!, DEVILLLLLLLL!!!!!!!", my Mom heard it upstairs and came flying down saying "What in the world are you listening to down here?!?!?! I don't want that in this house!!" I was finally able to calm her down after showing her the lyrics; she was like....."Oh."

Yeah, they have a much leaner, meaner, hungrier look and sound these days. Gone is the big hair and b & y spandex.I saw them for the first time on their reunion tour a few years back at a small theater in Raleigh, NC. It was a horrible venue by the way. They put on a great show and made my all night drive worth while. They look great these days in my opinion. Much like the band Europe, they've toughened up their look and sound a bit.
My favorite song by them is To Hell With The Devil with All For One being a close second.

What are the feelings on "Against the Law" That's my favorite of thiers. LOVE that album!
Wow, been a long time. Memory is fuzzy that far back, but seems like I saw them in Memphis when Jetboy opened for them. I guess that was In God We Trust tour.
Heck, I don't know, maybe I'm getting old tours confused, but I would swear it was Jetboy I saw them with![]()
I thought Stryper were calling themselves Theocracy now? ha j/k but they do sound alot alike, Matt is a dead ringer vocally for Matthew Sweet.
I hate that Tim Gaines left the band, but I like the new guy too. If I'm not mistaken, Tim lives over in Nashville now.
He lives in Nashville, is a session musician & plays in Richard Marx's touring band...
