stupid question about uploading a profile pic..

So this is kinda dumb but how do? i go into the user control panel then edit profile picture, then i tried uploading direct from my pc as well as put a photobucket link and it seemed like they both worked cause i saw it in the lil box in front of me so i figured it mustve uploaded correctly. ( i tried the 1st Then the other method when i noticed it wasnt working)

Now i just noticed that its not appearing when i post what step did i miss?
