I tried...

Just messing around with some cliche metalcore riffy stuff and synths.

I think I need some better drum samples.

UPDATE: New mix with slightly different guitar/bass and drum samples (still searching for a nice snare though). http://dl.dropbox.com/u/818500/Sturgiscore%202.0.mp3

FINAL UPDATE: I think this has a decent amount of low end now. Pod Farm still isn't isn't great. Found a kind of cool snare too. That's all I'm going to do with this track. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/818500/Sturgiscore%203.0.mp3

The synths are almost too over powering. The riff that comes in halfway through is sick though. Comes in hard. Overall good production (I suck though, so take it for what its worth). The drum samples could be better though, like you said. Did you layer samples? The kick isn't bad, maybe a tad more low end, but I don't like the snare much. Its just lacking something. lol. But, like I said, better than I could do. lol

Thanks man. No I didn't layer the drum samples at all. I usually do but I wanted to see if I could get a decent sound out the East West Colossus kits on their own. I might go in an resample the drums and see if I can come up with something better. I don't have the Slate samples that everyone uses so I'll have to come up with something else that sounds good.

Calling it Sturgiscore is like calling melodeath 'Fredmancore' because that's who produced a bunch of bands from that genre because they're concentrated around the same scene/area.

I actually really like these riffs. Drums are pretty bad... get S2.0 or Slate and you'll be set. Synths sound awesome, though. Is it all just Collosus? What was that bubbly synth in the 2nd riff?

Thanks guys.

I update the mix with some samples that I think are a little better. Still need to find a nice snare though. I'll try to look for a free one today and update once more. Otherwise I just changed the guitar and bass tone a bit. Blended in some of the Fear Factory kick sample I found Sneap Forum.

The lead the comes in after the intro is "SynthMaster" which is like the only free RTAS softsynth I've ever found- you should get it if you're using PT (EDIT: or any other DAW for that matter...). http://www.kv331audio.com/synthmaster.aspx Then the stabbing synth over the chug is "Hybrid" which is the PT native soft synth. Everything else is Colossus.
