Sub-harmonic synthesis for reason?

Anyone ever tried building a sub-harmonic synthesizer in reason using a drum module connected via cv to a synth module and some effects? I assume a low sine wave set to match the note(s) of the source would blend best with the kicks that I use (from this very forums drum sample thread) and at the minute I'm using the thor synth to generate the tones but are there any general rules/guidelines to sub-harmonic synthesis for kicks/etc. and what rules models like the DBX 120a use to generate harmonics because I've never actually thought about building one from scratch before.

MaxxBass does higher harmonics. Look at the picture. "Original Bass" in blue on lower frequencies, "MaxxBass" in yellow on higher frequencies.

EDIT: And this is a quote from the waves website: "Renaissance Bass delivers Waves patented MaxxBass® psycho-acoustic technology using simplified controls for quick, intuitive operation." And above that it says "MaxxBass® Renaissance Interface". So they are the exact same plug-in but with different GUIs.

Either way, MaxxBass will give you the effect of subs without killing your headroom like a sub would. It can be extremely useful for adding the illusion of sub bass.

Yellow can be slid all the way down to 40hz. How much more sub can you get/need? If you solo just the "maxxbass" all it is is sub low end.

here is something that actually does create sub-harmonic content... i use it in post/film but i am sure it can be used successfully in music

Boosting low end doesnt make it "sub-harmonic" even if it is all coming out of your sub speakers. Sub harmonics are frequencies at harmonic intervals BELOW the root frequency. If you slide the maxxbass signal down to 40hz you are adding regular harmonics above the original bass information from below 40hz. For example, if you have a 40hz signal, MaxxBass is gonna give you harmonics above like at 80hz. A sub-harmonic signal to 40hz would be 20hz.

I think the op was referencing the trick of sidechaining the kick to a ~60hz sine wave as some do, but rather having it trigger a sound from reason that will also match the root note of the bass. Cool idea.

I have a full octave down subharmonic sampler that I put together for just this... just use your kick pattern and/or MIDI data extracted from your bass DI... bam... proper, aligned subbass where needed.

damn is this thread still here? Yeah thats exactly what I meant amarshism I just wasnt sure if there was anything other to know about them apart from that hence I was asking what rules commercial subharmonic synths use to generate the new tones.
