Sub Woofers

Hey guys,

any of you using cheapo (sub £100/$180 ish) subs? I'm on with a band where im dealing with alot of sub lows and my passive monitors aren't the best down in that dept.

Looking to perhaps add something, it only needs to give me 5-10% more of the low end really, the stuff i can't 'feel' with these monitors

I'm using an 8" Home Theatre Sub I picked up for $20 on clearance from a local electronics store (it was marked down from $100). It works well to fill out the bottom where the NS-10s can't. I haven't had any issues with it. I can't really see the point of spending a mint on something that is going to produce 80Hz and below and if it's good enough for CLA to use a home theatre sub, it's good enough for me haha. There are some good active subs available from Infinity etc that get down around $180.


Here are a couple on eBay that look reasonable - decent frequency response and RMS.

didn't realise CLA used a home theatre one! was my thinking exactly with sub 60Hz stuff!

Behringer Truth sub. $200 new, works great

Can't go wrong with the Behringer. Cheap and does the job.

The only thing that's stopped me from picking up one of those Behringer subs is because I would have to route my signal through the built-in crossover on the sub before it gets to my A7s unless I were to pick up a Big Knob or Central Station. Has anyone done this before and is there noticeable signal degradation/noise?

No, there is not. I've run one monitor directly out of my apogee, and one into the sub into the monitor. I honestly couldn't tell an audible difference between the 2 and there is definitely no added noise. Mons are silent when not playing music.

thats the other thing on my mind, how would i hook it up to my system? as i use a small notepad mixer to control the master volume from both my 002 and pc soundcard.
