Hi guys, I have a problem with superlocrian...
I'm not a professional guitarrist and I can't find information...
I Know that superlocrian is the 7th mode of minor melodic and..:
1-b2-b3-b4-b5-b6-b7
But in what case can I use it???
Thanks a lot for help!:erk:

over diminished chords: 1 b3 b5 b7

or even just a basic 1 b5

that's the great thing about tone spelllings.. they tell you what chords will work, since chords come from scales and use the same type of tone spelling.... just just in thirds, from root, to third, to fifth to spell any basic chord from a scale... go further into 7ths, 9ths, 11ths, and 13ths to spell various extended chrods. 9, 11, and 13 are just the 2, 4, and 6 respectively.. but in the next octave. when you use then in the first octave you usually have to get rid of the 3rd and/or 5th.

But 1 b3 b5 b7 is a semidiminished cord?
I know that 1-3-b5-b7 is diminished, or i'm wrong??

yes, it's called half-dimished, technically.. you want the bb7, which is the same as the 6th. melodic minor is an interesting scale that spawns some very esoteric modes... anyone interested should check out Allan Holdsworth, Frank Gambale, and Scott Henderson.

Ok....I understand, but can i use superlocrian in dominant chords? like G7 for ex.
you can do anything you want, but i personally wouldn't if they had the same tonic... then you would have b3 clashing with 3, b5 clashing with 5, and b7 clashing with 7.... shift either tonic by one half step and you'd be fine. but then you really would just be in another mode.

James is right on with all of this but isn't it a b7 in a G7 chord? I don't think that one would clash.

The amount of stuff you can play over dominant chords is actually sickening.

yes, you are right.... slight oversight on my part.. i haven't taught in years,... yeah.. the b7 in Dom7 is correct, so shifting the superlocrian would give you a 7... which wont work great over Dom7... just avoid lingering on it, but you can still play it as a passing tone and it will be fine.

MMMMM theory...reminds me so much about why I dropped that class in college, lol.

I think theory is important to get some particular styles..when I play solos with my band I don't think at theory, but when I compose is important to know what you do..
