Symphorce

I am still digesting it... it is a BIG change from their usual sounds, specially on the vocal side of things...although at times the melodies remind me of their earlier albums.

It's very gritty, with the melodic sound of sysmphorce.

Maybe that's why this band isn't for everyone?! People like cheese in their power metal much like some liked it in the 80's hair metal?!

You notice that most of the time either people will LOVE cheese or HATE it... very hard to always please everyone.

I don't mind the lack of cheese with Sym... I think they are a very original sounding band... it's hard to do powermetal without the cheese... dungeons and dragons, damsels, prophecies etc.

Pretty big disappointment for me. :erk:

Same here I am afraid. It sounded a bit formulaic to me. Predictable.
Its funny because I really like this band. They mix up the agressive Amerikan sound with European melody. I guess I expected more from this album then what I heard.

I am sorry you guys feel that way... maybe you need to spin it a little bit more? I was very taken aback the first time I heard the album... it was not expected, but after listening well, there is a lot of good in that album imho.

maybe because you are a fan of doom and Type O Negative. I never put the two together until Pabs and I listened to it together.

It's a good disc, I enjoy the diff vox of Andy but still say it's lacking in the fullness of sound by not having any backing vocals or harmonies. I want to hear Dennis and Markus do some backup vox. That is my only gripe with the album well and the placement of In the hopes of a dream.

Too bad, you didn't like it. I think it's pretty damn good.

Different strokes. I had pretty high hopes for it after Godspeed. I thought they had steadily improved (in my ears) until this one. Maybe the next one will please everyone. I'm listening to it right now and it just flat out doesn't make me want to break stuff.

The one thing that just absolutley hacked me off about it was recycling "you hear me screaming out your name" on "Condemned". Maybe that gave me a bit of an attitude about it form the beginning.

I didn't pick this up yet (and I closed my zine so don't receive promos anymore), but how is it different from the previous one? I only heard the free sample and that one is very melodic, I hope it's not representative for the whole album?

Hi Marlies, the vocals change a lot... there is more "gruff" singing than soaring vocals. There are the staple Sym melodic pasages, but they are more sporadic than previous releases. It's a very good album... just diff :)
