SYSTEM OF A DOWN bassist Shavo Odadjian will make an appearance in the upcoming film "37: A Final Promise", which is set for theatrical and VOD release on August 8 by Gravitas Ventures. Odadjian as a small role in the movie as a pot-smoking preacher/rock star. Based on the Guy Blews memoir "How Angels Die", "37: A Final Promise" stars Randall Batinkoff who also directed and co-wrote the film as Adam Webb, the lead singer of a popular rock band who's been haunted by an incident from his childhood for most of his life. After deciding to end the pain and his own life on his 37th birthday, he meets and falls madly in love with Scottie Thompson's character, who harbors a dark secret of her own.Screenings will be held in Los Angeles the week of August 8 and in New York the week of August 15.Odadjian previously appeared in the Ben Stiller comedy "Zoolander" and has served as a video director over the years, having helmed SYSTEM OF A DOWN's clips for "Aerials" and "Toxicity".SYSTEM has not released a new studio album since "Hypnotize" in late 2005, with the band breaking its self-imposed hiatus in the last few years only for some lucrative European and North American tour opportunities.Odadjian in May 2013 posted a series of statements at his Facebook page in which he directly blamed singer Serj Tankian for SYSTEM OF A DOWN continued lack of new music, saying that the vocalist was holding the group back. After SYSTEM went on indefinite hiatus in 2006, Dolmayan and guitarist Daron Malakian started the on-again, off-again SCARS ON BROADWAY, while Odadjian collaborated in a project called ACHOZEN.
