Well, it seems I'll be getting a Ibanez TB100H head with a TB412A cabinet and I would like to know if any of you has had any expirience with this? I heard they are a very good choice in the lower price range and the shopkeeper told me that the model is very popular and is being sold very well. Also I would appreciate it if anyone has or knows of any soundclips of the TB100H.

Thanx

Btw, the shopkeeper also recommended a Laney in this pricerange

The TB100 is a decent amp for a guitarist o a budget. Dont expect to get amazing tone out of it. Its decent. Personally i think it pushes the bass too much. Thats all the rage these days but still enough is enough. The amp sonds very brittle so keep in mind your not going to get a warm sound like some of the oder valvestates did.

There's both a solidstate laney and a TB100 in my rehearsall room. The laney kicks the ibanez's ass so hard you wouldn't believe it. The ibanez doesn't sound very good at all. Another option could be the Line 6 spyder 2. I've seen a couple and they sound pretty good!

Tell me more about the Laney. The salesman didn't even know what model it was!!!! He just told me it was in the same pricerange. I'll be using this amp mainly for recording and I'm aiming to get a solid death metal sound for starters (Gorefest - Erase as a reference)

I personally wouldn't advice Laney for playing metal, especially death metal. My advice would be to wait, save a bit more, and get a 5150 off ebay.

I'm already spending more than I can currently afford

Do you mean the solid state laneys or the tube laneys? In any case, I don't agree. I cant remember what the model of the solidstate laney in my rehearsal room is. I'll check it out for ya this week end, but it sounds pretty good. And as for the tube laneys... VH100 sounds killer for any music, metal included. The clarity of that amp's tone is just amazing, and it has plenty of chunkyness in it. It actually sound better, IMHO, than the xxx. The peavey is a bit muddy

i used to own a gh 50L (50 watt 1 1/2 channel all tube head) that i bought for 350 euro used. decent amps, nothing to crap your pants about, great bang for the buck though.
similar to mesa's they can use both 6l6 and el34 powertubes. the 6l6 have more lowend somewhat, but add an unpleasant sizzle to the sound. the el34s sound great at low to medium volume, but compress way too much at high volumes (=master around 6-10). had enough gain for metal, no problem. with the el34s it was similar to my jcm800, just worse :D :D had more bottom end and lots more gain, but overall less smooth and more unpleasant than the marshall is. didn't kick you in the ass as much as the marshall does. if you're on a budget i'd recommend it in a heartbeat, though.
had a great shred tone, though. paul gilbert all the way

I believe his price range is about $400 ot $500 USD

In that pricerange the Laney is the clear winner. The spiders are OK but they sound Fake in my opinion, I have seen guys get good tones using a boatload of outboard gear on them, but then your going over your budget and your better off getting a used 5150 or a jcm800 with a preamp.

I would play Line 6 amps instead, I think even a Spider II is a better value than anything Ibanez can ever dream of.

But I'd also suggest tracking down a used 5150 or XXX above any of that.

O shit ... how about one of those Randall Cyclones (if you can find one) Or how about the randall R 200's Good amps for the price .... you should be able to find one on ebay dirt cheap, and they both sounds a MILLION times better than the Ibanez

A friend (Sickboy on this forum) advised me to forget the cabs and get a POD xt for my recording needs. That seems like a really tempting option right now!

If you get one, look at Karzogs presets for it. They totally kick ass.
