I saw them live 4 years ago (they opened for Ben Folds, who was playing at my college, and I was doing the lighting so I had to go - and this is off-topic but Ben Folds was actually pretty damn good), and I can say with all honesty it was one of the WORST shows I have ever seen in my life. None of their music had a single shred of originality, they all sounded basically the same with the same 5 basic guitar chords that every 10 year old beginning guitarist knows, their singing voices were droney and suicide-inducing, and the one that did most of the talking was one of those completely intolerable "oh so indie" females that constantly told 'quirky' (AKA REALLY BORING AND NOT QUIRKY) little stories about the 'whimsy of life' that were basically like "hey my life is boring but I like to pretend I'm really self-important also I talk in a really annoying slow voice to give my words more false gravitas and throw in random profanity so all the stupid feminists cheer at how liberated I am even though swearing is something done most frequently by stupid redneck females."
Basically by the end of that show, they were in my top 5 most hated bands of all time. I can't even believe there's a thread being made about them here, much less a positive one.
And I actually LIKE female singer/songwriter crap, so don't give me any of that - Bjork and Tori Amos are in my top 10 or 15 artists, no question. Tegan & Sara is beyond awful, unless their cds are the opposite of their live performance.
