Did anyone just catch Roger Federer saying "shit" on network TV? Of course, it didn't quite come close to Serena's total meltdown the other night. What a bizarre U.S. Open this has been!

And the state of Georgia represented well with Melanie Oudin and John Isner both having great runs. :kickass:

Melanie Oudin is now my favorite US tennis player, ever since Serena's bitch-fest. Seriously... I thought this McEnroe-esque bullshit was over and done with when he retired?

At any rate, YAY for Clijsters! Moms rock! LOL

I'm glad Clijsters won though I was rooting for Oudon until she got knocked out.

And we caught the last half of the men's final. Wow. That's a huge upset. I'm a Nadal fan but I'll always root for the underdog.

McEnroe was actually commentating on ESPN2 yesterday, and he said that Serena's outburst had outdone any of his tirades! I tend to agree...McEnroe used to get really angry (by the way, he still does when playing seniors events), but I don't ever recall him putting together a string of f-bombs the way that Serena did.

I think her behavior was inexcusable...but apparently all is already forgiven with the NY crowd. After the Williams sisters won the doubles final, Patrick McEnroe asked Serena a question about the incident, and the crowd booed McEnroe! Venus said something like, "I think the reaction means the crowd wants you to move on" and everyone cheered.

I will always admire Serena for her talent and her competitive spirit, but my opinion of her has definitely been diminished.

Yes, definitely! The variety in her game makes her really fun to watch. And while I've never met her, I've heard from folks who have that she is one of the nicest people in the sport. Congrats!!

I'm hoping for Oudin's sake -- and for the sport of tennis -- that she is able to maintain her high level of play once her ranking shoots up. Some players seem to do great when they are the underdogs...but things fall apart when the expectations start piling up and other players start gunning for them.

I only checked in every now and then during the first two sets, thinking that it would be a straight set win for Federer. Holy Crap -- what a shocker!!!

I got to see Federer's glorious melt down from the 2nd set to the finalie and it was absolutely wonderful. Also, I love women's tennis, and I, for one, am glad to see Serena be so passionate about what she does. Yes it was a bit of a bitchfest, but hey, she's only human. I like watching her play. She's intense.
