Testament - Alone In The Dark cover

Recorded this last night, the mix isn't too great at the minute, but give it a listen anyway. I think there is room for improvement in the guitar tone (and lead playing!) and also the snare drum. Ill fix them later today.

Let me know your opinions of it? Couldn't really be fucked to learn all the leads properly so they are kind of improvised.

Drums are DFHS, guitars are PodXT - how often is that posted on here? Ill get my mate to lay down some vocals at some point too.

Also, while I have made a thread, heres a song I did a while ago, its a nice cheesy Maiden-esque song, that I wrote for my coursework. Let me know what you think of this too. http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=4035286&q=hi

I was getting ready to bust your balls for the right hand picking, but you don't have any balls!

So in that case, nicely done. :)

I am most certainly Ed, and not a girl. got to ask where you got that impression from?!

There was a cute little chick at the top of your soundclick player when I listened to your track. I guess it was random.

Haha, some brutal comments here. I think the tones are pretty good and the drums sit well, nice work in that respect. Dig the pick in more and smooth out that bending and vibrato, and it would be pretty killer!

Cheers Kazrog, I was starting to wonder whether people would actually comment on the mix!

I think the pick attack has been lost somewhere, becuase I really made sure I 'dug' in. Even in the waveform you can see it, I think I'll back off the compression of the guitars. Ill work on my leads, I still haven't spent time learning them, Ill crack on with that and rerecord them. If anyone wants to do vocals, that would be really appreciated. Let us know. Got some intonation problems on my guitar actually at the moment, hopefully a restringing will sort that out. Quite hard to fix the bends when the original note is out. My lead playing is still sloppy as on this.

FWIW I'm really enjoying the JMP-1, definately my favourite Marshall amp. The amount of different tones, aswell as output options and classic Marshall tone. Im quite surprised with how it sounds direct, a lot nicer than I would have expected.

How about commenting on the mix? I know where I need to improve my playing thanks.

sorry

About the mix - guitars and bass don't form a good picture. As you allready know, you lost the atack somewhere and guitars are too middled (:)).
Really like the snate but the kick is too clicky for me.

I one more thing, try to program drums with more dymanic (those toms are lifeless).

Done a remix of it today, sorry to keep prodding at this mix, Ill make this my last remix (unless someone does vocals). Haven'y used the Sneap samples in this, so its 100% DFHS.

Haven't reprogrammed the drums yet, Im concentrating on how they are mixed more than how realistic they sound. Mix wise I used the Sonalksis compressor and EQ, they are without doubt my favourite plugns. I also used the GVST GGate, which I'm also really enjoying. Really simple to use, and its quick to get good results. On listening to it, its sounding a lot darker than my previous effort, and the there is room for the snare to be a bit louder too, imo. Im liking the sound of the drums on this one, considering I actually mixed these myself instead of letting Sneap do it.

Any other opinions on help with this would be appreciated.
