I went ahead and built an iso cab

basically the same design as the randall only considerably bigger, lined with 703.

it has a single v30

this was mic'd up with a single 57 straight on

2 tracks of 5150
2 tracks marshall

I think its going to work

I know the song is rough I just started tracking drums yesterday. the bass is a joke I was just winging it until the bassist cuts something.

anyway what do you think?

and if anyone's interested I uploaded the drum samples from this session

Dude, would you consider sharing some info's on the cab itself? I built one, too and well ... it's still too loud.
I can play my 6505 on it and it sounds great ... but it will never happen that the master goes past 1.5 :D
That also means that I will never play a Marshall through it :(

is it possible to play the amp at bedroom level sounds good....

I think so. I made it where the baffle that the speaker is on is the size of an ampeg 4x10 cab and the lid is 10 inches tall, so you have about a foot and a half of airspace between the speaker and the lid. much more free air than the randall. Plus the lid has 4 inches of 703 in the top of it to absorb the woofy/boxy sound

Sounds very nice, a little too smooth for my tastes. It needs a bit more high end to give it some 'bite' or maybe a gt75 for the marshall.

Which Marshall did you use btw?

Plans would be GREATLY appreciated im looking into building one myself i have an extra v30 laying around and some ply from a sub woofer build i just did. The tone in my opinion sounds great i wouldn't change a thing except maybe bring it up a bit in the mixs well as the bass, I think it being louder would fix the highs problem, Compared to the drums the bass and guitar just seem a bit low

EX- Out of curiosity, why did you go back to the iso cab set up instead of using impulses? I'm guessing you simply want to be able to mic a speaker whatever way you see fit?
Can't blame you there if thats the case. I often think about ditchin' mine and jumping on the impulse band wagon. I feel like I've gotten pretty good results so far though so I don't know.

actually I have never used impulses with guitars. I have always mic'd cabs
I think guys on here get amazing results with them and I have started messing with them recently.

I dont have a thing against using them I just want to be skilled at micing a cabinet.

I liked the randall, but for the money I could get for it vs. the results I got. It made more sense to sell it and build my own.

I took the things I didnt like about it and made a better one.

Mine has more air space and I have 3 interchangeable baffles, so I can have a 4x10 or a 1x15 or a vintage 30 depending on what I want to do.

I sold the randall for $400 or something which paid for my new one and a few other things as well. :headbang:

I really dont need one, I have 4x12's everywhere and I cut them loud here without any issues.

Basically I am seeing what I can get away with.....
