yo fellas,
one thing i've been thinking of for quite a while and never figured out
i'll pass on to you here - you all know that smacking sound usually
known from punk guitars, a certain "quack" most notably on palmmutings,
examples would be the likes of rise against, comeback kid but its also
notale on sneaps mixes for AILD but thats not the character i'm talking about.
my best guess is that its something unique for mesa amps, but it can be faked
by sliding the pick directly over the string instead of really hitting it.
anyways, i don't believe all those punkdudes use this method -
whats the magic behind this ? mesa with les paul ?

Wow...can you post a short clip from a song showing what you are talking about?

punk rockers and hardcore bands do left hand mutes as pretend palm mutes all of the time and often get a little harmonic in there. Maybe that's what you mean?
Otherwise please see MK's explanation above.

thank guys, didn't expect any replies haha.
so you're basically saying its technique right?
Mutant: Thats not what i meant :p
metalkingdom: AILDs latest album features the
exact sound but its so overthetop and quite different to that
standard punksound ...
whatever, i made a clip, didn't know how to isolate the left track,
so you got to solo it or hear the phenomenon through the vocals.
hope i'm not paranoid and you get what i mean heh!

Ok
I get it
you palm mute hard with your hand but touch the strings more gently with the fingers, at least this is how i do this.
