Kazrog's Musicians Friend sale thread brought these intriguing little gizmos to my attention. Anyone here tried them before?

This may sound retarded, but how are those things going to fit into an amp? lol

Surely a lot of amps don't have enough space? Anyway, I've never really seen EL84's as tubes for metal, although I guess they might be cool for some new flavour.

I've never tried em' though so don't listen to me ;)

84s are significantly smaller than 34s. I can see how it might be a squeeze in some amps, but most heads should be fine and combos where the tubes hang down into the speaker cavity would be no prob.

Anyway, I've never really seen EL84's as tubes for metal, although I guess they might be cool for some new flavour.

My best friend swears by his F-series Mesa with 84s for getting modern prog tones, though I haven't heard it recorded yet. And I've recently developed a hankering for a Vox Custom Classic (84s again) for jangly edge-of-break up tones.

I know that switching out power tubes isn't going to instantly turn a Peavey into a Mesa or a Vox (no matter how many times 5150 owners come here to ask :goggly:) but it couldn't hurt to have a little flavor variety on tap.

Hahaha, if you're implying that often in the past 5150 owners have come here wanting to make their amps into Voxes, I think you're reversing the two :p

Nah, just a general reference to the "I cant get my tone 2b crushing like [amp / player / album]. If I change to/from 6L6s I can haz crushing, right?" inquiries that pop up from time to time. :)
