Metallica & Nevermore have lots of great solo's to choose from.

But yeah, comfortably numb is timeless.

^Yeah, but on the other hand we have Comfortably Numb, Shine on You Crazy Diamond, Mother... hell, I think Comfortably Numb singlehandedly slays all Opeth's solos.

They are both great guitarists anyway, great feeling and taste.
Yeah I would say CN>>> all the opeth solo's. But some come for me much closer than any other band. You wanna hear stupidly great and LONG solos? Earthless my friend. Earthless. I'm not gonna stop plugging them until I start seeing them in the now playing .

hmmm...

Arch Enemy - Shadows and Dust.
Megadeth - Looking Down the Cross.
Megadeth - The Killing Road.
Opeth - Godhead's Lament.
Iron Maiden - Number of The Beast
...

"Rock Bottom" by UFO (Michael Schenker). Light years ahead of its time and still sounds great.
"Hot on Your Heels" by Steeler (Yngwie Malmsteen). Yngwie's first appearance on anything. If you can find this album, get it, his solo is worth the price.
"Holy River" by Prince from his Emancipation album. All my guitar head friends agree that dude can play.

John Petrucci has some amazing guitar solos on almost each song from DT but my favorites are:

Ytse Jam
Another Day (yes, the song is a little "cheesy" but that solo rulles)
Metropolis
Under a Glass Moon
Lie (2 solos:goggly:)
Lines In the Sand :kickass:
Octavarium

These are just a few.

EDIT: I forgot his solo from "Once in a LIVEtime"

I just listened to them. I must buy their albums now when I get the chance.

None of these. Fail

Sorry, no "fails" allowed unless you post an alternative. That's like bitching about politicians when you don't vote.

Sorry, but I'm afraid...

that looked a lot less painful than what i would have imagined. i thought his head would have hit the ground perpendicular to his body and the force of his body moving downwards would have snapped his neck

Selkies by Between the Buried and Me | or Straws Pulled at Random by Meshuggah
Both are SOOOOOOO beautiful... they give me chills. The interesting thing is that most of the time both of the bands are pretty brutal but those two instrumental parts... damn. They're more beautiful than any piece of classical music or anything like that ever made.
