The ENGL preamp plugin, TSE X30

haven't had a problem with it myself either... just make sure you pan the DI's 100% left and 100% right before it goes into the amp on stereo mode! Pan the guitars in LeCab.. If you don't do that, the two channels will leak/blend into eachother, and it will get messy when it's distorted :p .. but I guess this is not the case in this situation to be honest ;) Does this happen when you are playing it live while monitoring on speakers? If that is the case, you have to use a gate before, because there is no internal "feedback protection" in the amp

To get rid of any higher frequencies that sound fizzy I just use a hi-pass filter, this might solve the problem dude? I don't know though...

yes panned 100/100 before the amp ...

it's on recorded DI's only the parts with silence.

Do you have a clip of that noise ?
i've checked the issue again and created a new empty project using only X30 with mentioned knobs all up. The piercing tone wasn't to hear anymore.
Than i checked my other project and noted that this tone will be created only in conjunction with a tubescreamer (from simulanalog) in front of the X30.
(But tubescreame alone will not emit this signal)

Fucking love that thing, just be sure to keep the drive at like .7! (cuz it does the mid-tightening TS thing perfectly IMO, but if the drive is set to give almost any "grit" it starts to sound nastier than the real thing)

TSS, never used the Simulanalog TS9, though when Erik did a shootout comparing it vs. I think SoloC boosting 8505, the TS9 sounded like shitty ballsacks, so I was never too interested

^^^ Haha, shitty ballsacks :D TSS kicks it ass to tell the truth! Some people say that you should leave the drive at 0 on TSS, and thats what I have always done, does it really sound better if you turn it up a bit?

have you tried the TSS tubescreamer? Does that solve the problem?
just downloaded and installed, but Reaper won't show it up in the plugin list (also with clear cache and rescan)

edit: oops, its name is "vintage overdrive" ... will try it yet.

ok, with TSS the sine tone issue on the X30 is gone ...
thank you for the hint !

I've had that problem with the Simulanalog TS several times, which is why I don't use it anymore. :p

However, I do recall it being a very specific, very narrow frequency band, so it was easy as hell to EQ out.

Nah, but I find that with the drive at zero, it actually sounds slightly lower-gained than if the TSS plugin was bypassed, but I just checked, and looks like I'm actually keeping it at .2 these days! :D

Ugh, the bane of all guitar tones *shudders*

As said in the other version of this thread. onqel did an ace job. Fantastic unit - even though I use it more often for bass grit. We really are spoiled for choice here in the freeware realm, with the super talented and ambitious guys making these sims for us. I can only imagine that the amount of work required would be gargantuan - but given the level of commitment on this forum, it's no surprise that the quality bar has been set so high.

Finally tried out the ampsim (TSE x30 in this case) + impulses (Two Notes PI-FREE here) combo and i quickly got something decent sounding, and not too far from my regular (Engl SE into Torpedo VB-101) rythm guitar tone :

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15008135/othermixes_all/AmpsimTest_20120105v5_TSEX30-PIFREE.mp3

Now i have things set up to be able to play with my 2 guitars at the same time (same tone/panning as you can hear in the snippet above), which is great for jamming with guitar-playing friends when they come over.

And the CPU load is a non-issue for me here (with 2 guitar tracks playing at the same time, each with their own "TSE x30 + PI-FREE + EQ (HiCut) + NoiseGate" Fx chain in Reaper).

So thanks Onqel for putting out those awesome ampsims !

Gonna try the other stuff you've done as well as the LePou stuff soon !
