So, does anyone have the slightest idea when Katatonia's new record will be available in the US? It doesn't even appear on amazon.com. I know it's available on iTunes, but who wants some 128kb/s over-compressed crap. Not me. Anyone know?

According to http://www.aversionline.com

"Differing international release dates are extremely fucking dumb.
Apparently the new Katatonia CD won't be out in the US until April 4th, whereas it's already available for download via iTunes and it'll be out in the UK (and I assume Europe) in like five days. That pisses me off. A great deal. God damnit. I might just have to break down and piss $10 away by downloading the damn thing while I wait for the US release. But I do not want to fucking do that, because selling mp3's is fucking lame and I don't want to support that bullshit trend in any way. Decisions, decisions..."

Guess I'll be waiting until April. I do not shop at iTunes, and I'm certainly not paying the cost of having it shipped across the ocean. Thanks for the info, mate. :)

Itunes format 128 actually sounds considerably better than most 128kb/s mp3s, JUST TO LET YOU KNOW.

Also this is terrible news...I'd watch theendrecords's mail order site, I'm sure they'll get it sometime before the US release date (at least, they usually have done so in the past?).

That sucks. I thought the release date was 3/14. So, I was going to buy it tomorrow and listen to it on the way to Opeth.

If you live in Europe it should be today...3/13. If you live in America (like myself) it's not untill April 4th...which sucks.

snappermusic.com has it for like 11.xx pounds...which IIRC comes out to something like 20 US dollars...then include shipping it across the big pond, no CD is worth spending more than 13-15 bucks on.

I got a promo version of it. On every track there is a male voice that comes in at a random point in the song saying "You are listening to insert track name here off of the new Katatonia album, The Great Cold Distance."

Rather annoying, but I do believe the record is going to be pretty darn good. So, April 4th, I wait for thee.

HMV £9.99

still cheaper in the US.
HMV (in the UK anyway) are crap. My girlfriend ordered a copy of Lamentations (the Spring following its release) as a birthday present and it never came. She ended up getting an order cancellation e-mail for it (8 months later) and I ordered it from Amazon that christmas.

no CD is worth spending more than 13-15 bucks on
 I hope you never get into October Tide ...

Cool, it will be available on my Birthday!

Hell yeah. Anyone gonna buy it for me for my birthing day?

I have already heard the album but with watermarks (you are listening to...)

It is awesome! Definite must have.:kickass:

I figured this bullshit would occur. I went to the record store today and they didn't have it. The guy said that if it was supposed to be released this week, it would be there either tomorrow or on Friday, but after reading the initial post, I know it'll be delayed quite a bit in Canada.

i bought it yesterday. great album, definitely one of their best (altough not as good as VE). after a few listens these are my fav. tacks so far:

My Twin, Soil's Song, Deliberation, July, In The White

Definitely. I'll have to give it several more spins to see if it comes anywhere close to VE though.

My Favourites (at the moment) are: Follower, July and Leaders.

Gee. That's a lot of complaining about different international release dates. I don't hear anyone complaining about a US band having different international release dates, or the fact that when movies from the US come out to the movie theaters in Europe, they've already been out on DVD in the US for quite a while. It's just natural that products are released locally first. You can get it early if you wish, but then you'll have to be prepared to pay a little extra for it.
