The House That Jack Built

Last week everyones fellating Velvet Cacoon. This week they are being bashed. (In reference to the GMD Thread)
Seriously, what the fuck is up with this? I haven't seen an about face so huge since that Vanilla Ice thing way back when (slight exaggeration :loco: ). Personally I have yet to make it through their entire obviously self-administered interview, but thankfully it's as interesting as it is pompous.

I think my favorite part is that they are so secretive about who they are, yet go into explicit details of who what where when why and how they record their albums.

SotS gives the impression of being heavy, due the straight-forward composition of the songs and perhaps because of the smooth production. The riffs in themselves aren't any heavier. Although I guess "heaviness" is subjective.
True, and the crystal clear production helps everything sound heavier.

If a band wants to experiment, fine. But start it as another project ferfucksake. I don't need the Bolt Thrower guys throwing disco into their death metal and then saying "well we evolved as a band, so here's the new Bolt Thrower!"

The key point about the "sell out" isn't so much change in music style, but WHY they changed in the first place. Was it to sell more albums? Who knows, and who cares...for every band that dissolves, another 5 rear their ugly heads for the fickle petty metal heads complaining about something or other.

Yes, "The House that Jack Built" is very good. There are good songs on all Metallica albums post "...Justice", except St. Poopoo (although I'm a hypocrite because I've never heard all of St. Anger, just the shit on the radio).

Has anyone heard St Anger in its entirety?

Re: Velvet Cacoon - I have no idea what goes on in the GMD, but all I can say is that I've got my CD now and I've brought it with me to Florida!!! Sunshine, palm trees, and eco-fascist black metal!! \m/

so is so much of the raw, naked hatred for metallica nowadays based on the fact that fans feel betrayed by a band which didn't want to stagnate, and so attempted to evolve?
Somehow I don't think that a band concerned with stagnation releases a CD called "Load" and follows it up with a CD called "Reload". I also don't think such a band would write a Part II to their biggest hit ("Unforgiven").

sif a band doesn't want to change, doesn't it become a tired, worn-out whore like Priest, flogging the same album over and over?
I'm all for bands evolving and redefining their sound. However, it's my perrogative, as a music consumer, to think their latest incarnation sucks ass, as to say so.

I own it..and dig it very much. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone though. The album just puts me in a good mood. I can't explain it. But just typing about it...is putting a smile on my face! I'm madly in happy with you! :Spin:
