Sorry to be repetitive...but I thought I'd share my concert experience! I'm new here as well.
On Friday, me and my brother had tickets to Orchestra 9 I think? Anyway, it was all the way over to the left. We were in the seats that were the furthest possible to the left. We couldn't see the stage at all, and were preparing ourselves for a disappointing time, but then one of the staff came up to us and told us to go up to the desk in between doors 3 and 5 and they'd try to get us better seats. So we went up there, and they were handing out wristbands for the pit! It was extremely cool. I got about second to the front. Didn't see Bruce fall, and so I thought when he was all curled up he was just being theatrical, until Janick went over, and then I got worried. But I was so happy when he got up again!
Anyone who was in Orchestra 5 I think it was, and heard/saw the kid yelling things like "Di'Anno!" and "Nice shorts, asshole - you're old!" that was my acquaintance 'Slaughter.' He was very drunk so excuse him. Also before the show he was hanging out of the back of our truck giving people the horns and screaming "MAIDEN!" I don't see why you would want to drink a bottle of whiskey before seeing Iron Maiden. Or get drunk or stoned at all for that matter. You wouldn't remember the experience!
Saturday I had pit tickets. I was the absolute first person into the pit, which was just great luck. I had an incredible time chatting with my friend Lauren and some other guys nearby, and getting crushed to death. I managed to get Bruce's attention long enough to show him my sweatshirt, on which I'd stencilled 'I *heart* Bruce Dickinson.' He pointed to himself as if to say "Me?" in an incredibly endearing way. I also caught one of Nicko's wristbands.
It's seriously one of the best things ever when you're there with a ton of other people who love Maiden just as much as you, and you're all singing along, and the band is enjoying what they are doing just as much as the crowd is enjoying watching it. I gave Dave the thumbs up and he grinned back at me (as per usual), and if we want to get completely teenybopper about it, I touched Janick's hand. These shows were my first time seeing Iron Maiden live. I have Rock in Rio and Visions of the Beast, but it still amazed me how much they move around, especially Steve and Janick and Bruce. And to see Janick throwing his guitar around in person was incredible.
I love most of the songs from the new album, though I wish they'd played 'Montsegur' instead of 'No More Lies.' Journeyman I thought was a really powerful moment. Hopefully for the band as well as the crowd. And Bruce is a great performer, the way he got the crowd to start humming along so there weren't any awkward silences. Also the way he always looks up at the whole place, instead of down at the people in front. You can tell he knows exactly what he's doing.
And let me just say, nobody should mess with Bruce. No one should throw ice at him, ever. It's incredibly rude and stupid. If you want recognition, get it a different way.
I wish I could have met the guys, but there was no way to sneak backstage, so I guess I'll have to wait for the next time they come to L.A. How do you get a backstage pass? I really wish I could get one, I guess you just have to know the right people.
