The Midwest

The area in Chicago where I lived was pretty crappy (right by Midway airport), but the best Chicagoland area to live in would probably be Evanston, or somewhere on the northside.

Minnesota is fucking beautiful, even the quaint little towns are nice to look at. Iowa and Nebraska actually do have some really nice scenic spots, you just have to know where to look. And the city of Omaha, where I've lived for the past several years, is a decent town. It's generally clean and safe, and has the advantages of the city and a small town atmosphere rolled into one.

my only experience with the midwest is from when i went to Heathen Crusade III in 2008 in Minnesota. the major difference i noticed from NJ and there was that people seemed genuinely friendly. yea, they had the funny fargo accent, but i felt welcomed at the airport and hotel there. shit even the black guy that drove me from the airport to my hotel knew his shit with hockey. that was so refreshing to hear since in the nyc area it's 100% about the stupid yankees and their daily bullshit.

Wow...black guy watches hockey. Not a yankees fan are you?Good. Oh they love hockey in Minnesota. The hockey state for sure.

The north side of Chicago is great. I guess Naperville is okay if you're into white bread, cultureless, snoozy, soccer mom bullshit. Fuck the suburbs. It's "nice" but must be boring as hell. I like being able to take the train or bus to world-class beer bars. I can walk to Metal Haven, one of the only brick-and-mortar metal stores. Any show of relevance is pretty easy to get to by public transportation. I like not needing to have a car, and being able to be downtown in 20 minutes or so. There are two large parks in walking distance, and a regional library.

The Midwest has several great breweries too.

There are plenty of very good, knowledgeable Cubs fans, but they are mostly priced out of the stadium. It's too expensive for most people to attend games because the yuppies are willing to pay very high prices. The people in the park don't speak for the entire fanbase.

I only go to a game about every other year or so, but it's a great place to watch a game.

Lots of good points, except Metal Haven is closing down so walking there isn't much of an option, or won't be soon. Theres still Reckless Records though. But yeah, north side of Chicago is great, especially that Belmont/Broadway area where Metal Haven used to be.
