The new album?

All rumours are wrong, as all we can do is give an approximate estimate based on when we think Mike will finish writing, when we think they will book the studio, how long we think they will be there, when it will be recorded, when it will be mastered, when it will be published etc. etc.

Nothing is definate yet.

I like the fact that nobody is putting time pressure to record on the band. It could take them as long as they wish, yet I have the feeling we would patiently wait... What we the fans want is not to be disappointed and get THE Opeth masterpiece, truly better than any single album to date.

I agree also with not putting a time pressure on the band. That whole process of the last albums and their tours (from what I read) doesn't seem to have been a fun one for the guys, and I really can't blame them if they decide they want to take some break time in between that and starting on the next album.

opeth deserves to take a break honestly....they've consistantly released albums at least every 2 years since Orchid, not to mention touring and...well some weddings. They should take their time and release the CD like next summer or something.

Expectations are next year for everything to be complete, and maybe some time in the fall a record will be made. Mikael Akerfeldt said he is going to complete all his material and do a wee bit of rehersal with the guys before he books the studio. It most likely will not be the studio that they had a bunch of problems in because of the aggrivation it placed upon them. Also, I bet Steve Wilson will be producing it, and all that jazz. So it is a large number of factors that will determine when the next album is released. The biggest one is how Mikael writes this one and if he works on it a lot or every so often. Shoot for next year.
It would be nice to have yet another Opeth masterpiece in my collection, but I bands need to breath every so often and enjoy their lives. Do you really want another BWP or do you want something new? If we rush them, it wont be like it would be if we didn't.

Yeah... 7 albums in 8 years? Insane. And I think they did... what, 3 tours in one year? The guys deserve a break.

Can't wait for the album. :spin:

Since they are taking longer and such, i bet the album will sound more diverse than it has before. The past couple albums have alot of influence coming just from mike, and everyone else just contributes. so i bet it will sound quite a bit different than normal.

2005 I can assure you.

Yes, also true that there's no label pressure. No label at all in fact. So it realy depends on how long they take to find a suitable label, and then what sort of expectations that label will have for a timeframe for a new album.

Was I the only one paying attention during the shows on the Lamentations tour? He said we might not see them for two years. My guess is anywhere from summer of '05 to spring of '06. I hope it takes that long, too. I want an amazing album. Then again... It doesn't take Opeth much to crank one out...

Opeth started in 1990. They started recording in '95 so basically its been 14 years.

Well, it doesn't really matter how long the band's existed... just like you've said, they started recording in '95, and by '03 they had released seven volumes. Which is still amazing.
