The new Rodrigo Y Gabriela album is pure sex

Why in the name of the wee man are you posting on metal forums with general metal knowledge that seems to be seriously lacking?

awesome! must have been fun as shit
It seriously was. The entire place was clapping along the whole time, and I've never seen so many people all smiling so huge at a show. These two just bring a good time when they play. I've also never heard ANY metal band (not even Slayer, who I saw at this exact same venue a few years ago) get as loud a reception as these guys after every song. There was definitely something special going on during the entire show.

They incorporate so many nods to good metal when they play live. They played their version of Orion and they pull off the famous "Metallica endings" on a lot of their songs. They throw in familiar metal licks in the middle of songs, and at one point Rodrigo even started playing the beginning to South of Heaven. He totally headbangs during the parts where he's really shredding, too. It's really something else. They're metalheads, it's completely apparent and I love that they're willing to do so many nods to it in their sets when 90% of their audience probably has no idea what's going on.

There were also times when they'd play something so quiet and moody that you could almost hear a pin drop in the venue. It was crazy to actually be able to hear people around us whispering to each other during these parts.

This will probably be one of the best shows I see this year. I recommend checking them out if they come to your city. You'll have a great time :)

The focus on technique differs greatly between myself and Alex Skolnick. I focus on creativity, he focuses on speed, technique, jaw breaking licks, that sort of thing. From listening to that solo, I know this. It is the hidden mystery behind my words. I simply have not paid him any attention.

If anyone's interested, Amazon is selling the new album for only $5 (mp3 format, not the actual cd) for the month of October.
