The Pound S.F. closed down!

This was an unexpected shocker!The #1 premeire Metal/Rock/punk club in San Francisco has closed down!That was the regualr place to go for Metal shows in the bay area!The Maidens played there a few years ago & I was planning on throwing my b-day bash there this December.
Last wednesday they got their eviction notice & last night was the final show.Very unexpected as they have a ton of upcoming shows booked they have to find new venues for.
So I was there last night.They had some cool hardcore bands playing but I got real misty eyed knowing this was the end.However it was very inconvienently located especially if you rely on public transit.That part I wont miss!The cool thing was after the last band palyed they had all the drinks at the bar served foe FREE & stayed open the rest of the night.Still sad though.
It was tough for me being there,and then I find out my friend Jeannette is moving away to LA today so last night was the last time I was going to see her for a while & this month is the 2 year anniversary of the passing of my cat I had for 12 years
I've been through this before with the major club in the scene closing down.I was there when the legendary clubs the Stone & Omni closed & then the Trocadero & Cocodrie after that.I'm sure something new will spring up.It always does!

That sucks - I hate it when famous clubs get shut down cos of greedy property developers. The Astoria in London is in danger of getting shut down so they can put flats in it's place. Like London needs anymore flats!!!

OMG. ANOTHER one. Jesus man. Dont forget the Rock on Broadway and the Hill! Those have been gone for some time as well.
I just cant believe the Pound is gone too!

Yeah man, I am a Concord boy! The hill was in Oakland. Rock on Broadway was across the street from the Stone. John Nady bought them and a few others in the late 80's and started the whole PAY TO PLAY deal. That asshole then raped us all for as much as he could, then shut the clubs down. I havent been by it in awhile, but the last I saw the Stone was still, sadly empty.

Ths Stone's a stip club now(just what Broadway needed ANOTHER strip club!) di you paly in a band back then?I worked with a thrash band called Wrekking Machine.We did that whole pay to play crap it was awful but those were great clubs!

That's sad news! That was a fun place to play! So many metalheads totally into it and good bands too! Wow. Guess you gotta enjoy a good thing when you have it don't you, before it slips away. I wonder where all the bands who had bookings there are going to play instead, especially the touring bands who are depending on that as one of their stops.

I wa spuzzled too asI heard the gut that owned the Pound,Owned thw hwole property.Someoen taht works there told me he had a habit of not paying for permits & it caught up to him.It's areal bummer!

Well at least it was his own fault, he could have met his obligations, but that’s better then losing it to “imminent domain” to some tycoon using Big Brother to steal it legally.

Opens the door for a new club to open up I guess.

Danny, If I had the money to move down there I would see if you wanted to open a place up and we run it and own it and bring in whoever we wanted to hear. It would be the most ROCKIN place in all the US! But, fantasy is a long ways away.

Anyway, sorry to hear about one of your hangouts. Consider yourself lucky, there are NO places for me to hang out here in Yakima, this crappy city has nothing ROCK, it's either that rap crap or country. God I hate this place.
