The Road

It actually doesn't explain much at all. The scene Karen was talking about doesn't explain anything, it just happens to show some fire and them looking out the window saying " something is happening" for the most part. There is no "and they lived happily ever after..." no one ever says," this happened because of that"

I haven't read the book, so I can't compare the two but again, good movie that is not for everyone.

you can't compare a book with the film? ok = imagine comparing contrast and brightness ok

Can anyone help explain the symbolism in the ending for me? I won't be too specific in my questions, I don't want to ruin the movie for anyone who hasn't seen it (so a properly placed *spoiler alert* would be appreciated). Aside from the bullshit ending (I might change my mind if I discover the figurative significance), I greatly enjoyed this movie. I just cannot interpret the ending

I watched this for the first time last week. I think it was just a shitty pseudo-happy ending (pseudo because everyone's going to die anyway). It was a goddamn good movie except for the last 90 seconds.

Note - I read the book, not the movie, so we could be talking about different endings here.

I thought the ending was really good. The whole book (for me) was about hope when no possible reason for hope still exists. Even at the end, the father still held out hope for the life of his son and the ending sort of confirmed that. Will they all die? Maybe, you never know but I think accepting that means accepting there is no hope.

Anyway, just my thinking on it. Either way, I liked it quite a bit. Did not like No Country For Old Men.
