the Scorpions are terribly under-appreciated

The recent polls for best albums have me thinking that the Scorpions are tragically under-appreciated in the metal community.

From approimately 1976 (Virgin Killer) through 1984 (Love At First Sting), they were right there with Priest, Rush and Dio-lead Rainbow/Sabbath/Dio.

Every record released during that period is a masterpiece. And that's not a term used lightly.

Sure, they strayed too far into lackluster songwriting after that, and it's tarnished their legacy, but their classic era is a must for any hard-rocker's collection.

And last year's "Unbreakable" is a great comeback of sorts.

"We'll Burn the Sky"
"Coming Home"
"No One Like You"
"Animal Magnetism"
"Another Piece of Meat"
"Always Somewhere"
"Dynamite"
"Sails of Charon"
"Yellow Raven"
and many more are all burning classics! :headbang:

In general I agree with your assessment of the Scorpions. but I'd rather start their streak of strong albums with their second one "Fly to the Rainbow" The album after that is also very good: "In Trance". In fact "In Trance" is one of my favorite albums.

And I agree with you that they are under-appreciated.

So true !! Scorpions made awesome stuff back then(I guess I'm one of the few who luv "Lonesome Crow"), though the new album, didn't quite convince me, anyhow it's still a step in the right direction.

I love "Lonesome Crow" as well I just did not mention it because it not an hard rock album. I love how Michael Schenker is playing on that album! He was only 17 then!! My favorite tracks are the title track and "Action". I still have the album on clear blue vinyl.

Not strictly Hard Rock or Metal, but some really cool "metallic" guitar from Michael. "Action" is also my fave with Klaus doing some killer vox, he sounded so awesome on that album.
I only have lousy reissues on vinyl and cd

I really like the Scorps, but this happens to be one of those bands I don't own much of thier stuff. Not that I don't want to, it just gets tough to fill that back catalog when trying to keep up with new releases and such. They are on my wish list though! Do they have a good box set or anything? I really want some of the old stuff.

Not by me they aren't!!

I luuuuuuuv the Scorpions as you can see. In Trance really did it for me, I do like Lonesome Crow and Fly to the Rainbow but they seemed to hit me more as "acid rock" imo. I am a dedicated fan who can say their last release pissed me off! For years I've been waiting for a kick ass album, they talk of doing another "blackout" album, heavy fast hard and then comes "Unbreakable" tsk, tsk, tsk.

They still made me giddy like a little girl though!

I do know what you are saying though. I've tried for the last 5 years to get the Scorpions on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This is done by submitting an application with history of the band, accomplishments, charity work and a recent audio submission. If selected it cost you $50,000.00 to put the star in the sidewalk. This is usally paid for by a management company or label...In our case we got no support from the management or the label so fuck em! We don't need a star on any sidewalk or a costume in a musuem to know that they are one of a handful of bands who have stayed (mostly) together throughout the last 3 or more decades!

Uli, Rudy, Michael and Matthias are some of the best yet underrated guitarists. Poll after Poll you will hardly see any of them mentioned.

My faves are "In your Park" "Life's like a River" "In trance" "Lovin you Sunday Morning" oh jeeez I could go on and on and on!

SCORPIONS ROCK MY SOUL

They just released a box set. It has just about everything you could want. Well for me I was hoping it would come with at least a few unreleased tracks. If it one thing the Scorpions have a lot of and that is compilation albums!

I remember very well listening to the Blackout album when it appeared, that was high on my list for months at that time !!

I wish more bands would release the back catalog all together. Pink Floyd's box is a great example. Queensryche just did one too. It makes it easier to get them all at once, remastered and everything.

Actually, i'd say Box of Scorpions counts as a box set. It's 3 CDs, i believe.

Anyway, the Scorps definitely have their moments of kick assitude. In fact i'm listening to one of those very moments right now: "I'm Leaving you"! :headbang:

well, the Scorps have been on like 4 labels so everyone releases diff stuff. For compilation albums I like "Pictured Life" and "Live Bites" Other than the latest box set the Scorpions Deadly Sting- the Mecury years is the best.
There is also the Gold Box Ballad Set from Japan

I just read Uli is going to play some songs with them at a show....I wish I could see that...OMG sails of charon....mouth watering
which is what I did when I saw Uli a few months ago! I thought I'd never hear that song live. The Scorpions in 2003 played "Fly to the Rainbow" and 'In Trance" I love it when they reach way back into their catalog!

I love the Scorpions and yes you are right they are underrated/underappreciated.. at least in the U.S. but i hear they are huge in Europe... can any of our European members clarify that? ... i always loved their guitarwork almost as much as i love maiden's (please.. smith and murray only lol ) ....
