I know this is Dark Tranquillity's forum, and i know there's a bands thread, and i know i probably shouldn't be posting this here... rahvin, do your thing if you must. But i think it's the only way to reach a lot of people who know quite a bit of metal and could help me out.

So, my question: What the fuck happened to The Sins Of Thy Beloved? They do their 2000 "Perpetual desolation" and then supposedly put out a live album (or maybe it's a bootleg) in 2001, and then they totally disappear from the face of the Earth. No official site anymore, no post-2001 news on the internet, no shows, no nothing. Anyone know what's the deal with this band?

Thank you, people.

it's ok to post threads about other bands if you have questions or want to discuss them. especially if it's not your band we're talking about, that's not the kind of advertisement we want to keep in just one place.

as for the sins of thy beloved, i have to admit i only listened to "perpetual desolation" once, and thought the quality of the recording was - to abuse a word that is apparently appropriate when talking about certain bands - depressive. the ideas were ok, in a theatre-of-tragedy-meets-cradle-of-filth-and-they-have-a-barbecue kind of way, but the sounds threatened my very being, or at least my very being sane.

Is that the band of Liv Kristine? Shes horrible, I cant stand her voice and I think she does a very good job in hiding the fact that she is actually a quite band singer. Velvet Darkness They Fear was the only album where I was able to tolerate her.

Yeah, yeah, I know that like everybody else knows that she was in TOT, so I didnt bother to mention that VDTF is from TOT. But I think she also had had her own band before she left TOT and married that guy from Atrocity and let him create a new band for her, and I think that band was TSOTB. But maybe Im wrong. Shes horrible anyway. :D

that's Leaves Eyes. I had the misfortune to see them live together with Atrocity. It was... atrocious. Which was disappointing, as I quite liked Theatre of Tragedy.

Anyway, at the moment, most of those gothmetal bands sound too similar for my taste. LIke Within Temptation, After Forever, Sins of Thy Beloved, Tristania Sirenia... every now and then there's something good and semi-original but for the most, they're too generic imo

rahvin: I suggest "Lake of sorrow". I profoundly dislike "Perpetual desolation", but what came before it ("Lake of sorrow" from 1998 and two 1997 demos, "All alone" and "Silent pain") is mostly very good (imo).

marduk: Liv's current band is Leaves' Eyes. Her old band was Theatre Of Tragedy, as rahvin said. And The Sins has absolutely nothing to do with Liv (as far as i know).

Hitori: Of course Sirenia sounds like Tristania: the guy is ex-Tristania. ;)

Anywho, about The Sins...

I know that, I've seen both bands live several times. Still, I consider the genre as a whole to be in urgent need of some fresh ideas (just like power metal) as all the bands I mentioned seem to me to be repetitive and unoriginal (with exception of maybe Tristania's weeds + beyond the veil). including sins.

Aaah, ok ya all, youre right, I wasnt sure anyway. I finally googled it and now I know where I got it. Its that TSOTB was constantly compared to TOT at the time, so it kinda merged into one picture in my head.

I don't know what happened to them, but I must say their first album, "Lake of Sorrow" was actually a very good recording that managed to sound somewhat different from the majority of the genre. I especially liked the abundantly used violin.

Having bought Lake of Sorrow I went to their website, participated in a silly competition and won a promo-copy of "Perpetual Desolation", after which I lost all interest in the band.

Of all the goth metal albums from the past fifteen years, I listen only to Aegis by Theatre of Tragedy regularly nowaways. Unless we count Projector as goth metal (homoerotic gothic nonsense, anyone?)

I was quite disappointed by "Perpetual desolation" as well. I still harbor the (apparently useless) hope that they will reappear sometime with an album at least half as good as "Lake of sorrow".

What exactly did happen to this band? Any conclusion? M-A says the band is Unknown. I listened to 'Lake of Sorrow' a few years ago, I remember, and I didn't mind it at all. Just never followed up on them that's all.

I'd say all of metal and rock in general is in need of those. Damn music nowadays, it's not as surprising as it used to be.
