I decided to listen to this album yesterday... and goddamn. I'm blown away by the whole mix. Everything is clear and defined. The guitar sound is simply incredible.

Does anyone have any info about how this was tracked/mixed? I seem to remember hearing that Butch and Billy used an unholy amount of guitar tracks, and it certainly sounds like it, but I have no idea how one would go about mixing all those tracks together.

Amazing album, one of my all time favorites. Every single time I hear any track off this album, it brings me back to being 15 years old, smoking pot, playing guitar, and this sort of time-less feeling....like it will forever have a special place in my heart for some reason.

I heard they did 40+ guitar tracks on the song "Soma", but not all playing simultaneously.

Right? haha

Also, slightly off topic, but......wtf ever happened to SP? They released crap after Mellon Collie and then reunited with a different chick bassist and no James Iha? Then....poof, gone again?

you should probably read up on billy corgan from the break up of Zwan forward. He has been a head case pretty much. and the break up of Zwan (which had at least a couple members of SP, Iha and chamberlin i think) was not pretty.

I seem to remember him saying that he used his big muff into his JCM800 with KT77 tubes alot on that album.

I had that Viewphoria dvd(actually, I owned the VHS) and I seem to recall the rest of the band seeming a bit weird in that. Almost like, pissed, because Billy was sort of the "boss" and didn't he retrack all James's and D'Arcy's parts for Siamese Dream himself?

Yeah, I think he did guitar and bass for their first two albums.

dudes are back together and just dropped an album like 2 weeks ago!

Such a crappy band. Call that singing?? Must be one of the most overrated bands ever. Gonna check out this album for the production though. Was fun reading over at GS, pretty ambitious to say the least haha
