The Truth about Rick Rubin

Oh fuck, that picture :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I was gonna start this thread. Exactly my thoughts about him. He was way overrated back in the 80s and he's more overrated than ever nowadays. He's gonna produce the new Sabbath album. What a perfect match: Ozzy&Rubin.

Saw that yesterday. LOVED IT. Corey could seriously do a quality stand-up comedy act.

EDIT: The Blabbermouth comments are almost as hilarious as the video itself. Always puts in perspective how stupid large amounts of people can be when they congregate in the right place.

Exactly what I thought when I saw the "Making of" Death Magnetic. Rick Rubin just appeared one time leaning on a couch doing nothing. Basically Fidelman and Lars co-produced as far as I could tell. Maybe 'tallica should follow Trivium's advice and get Colin (or Andy, for that matter) to produce their new album. Cause after the shitstorm Lulu caused, it better be good.

Hope the Bearded One doesn't screw up the new Sabbath CD...
In my opinion they should have hired Nick Raskulinecz (did I spell his name right?) to do it...

true and valid, for sure. still i think what he said about the assistance is kinda offensive...

its probably true that rick rubin is a lazy asshole nowadays, but all the talk about rick's beard implying him to be an unhygienic person, that is just cheap of corey taylor

seriously, he has every right to criticise his work, but not stuff like "he smells like shit" or something

the insults were the parts where people were actually laughing so i wouldn't blame him, he was just giving some more impact and entertainment value to a rant.

Always saw him as a successful Lebowski. A real genius at making money out of thin air.

Not that I know him personally. That's just how I picture him.

Maybe they feel simply having his name on the sleeve will recoup their outlay, with interest. The industry is about appearances. The fans will generally buy into familiar names.

Rick Rubin doesn't really have fans outside musician circles though, I mean could your average rock consumer tell you who Rubin was or care enough to check the liner notes for his involvement? Probably not, its mostly just good marketing and PR work.

To be honest I reckon that most producer types are probably just overpaid idiots who don't know anything about what they are listening to, not just Rubin.

you guys are all crazy, one person says something bad, and i think even kerry king at one point but that was towards the end, and all of a sudden rick rubin does nothing lol

there is something called a TRACK record, and he has quite an impressive one. potentially unmatched in the realm of a music producer and if not unmatched, definitely in the elite league of his own counterparts. what one or two people say is far different than every other artist has said about him and the praise they give and the sheer fact that he has put out both quality and stuff that sells.

no matter what you cannot argue these facts. and i think the point is if you show up 45 minutes a week or 8 hours a day doesn't matter as long as the job gets done and the artist gives their best performance. the artist doesn't HAVE to feel like they are getting the job they want, the record just has to sound good and do its job which is to make other people fall in love with it. whatever road he takes there doesn't really matter as long as the end result is reached. he's openly stated that he prefers a more hands off approach and let the artist figure out parts and sections on their own and he treat production from a listeners aspect not "hey let's try a key modulation here to get into the bridge."
