On a vaguley related note, I procured a copy of "Time of the Hawk Lords" which is written by Mr. Moorcock... about Hawkwind in a post-apocalyptic future. I entirely plan to listen to Hawkwind the whole time I read the book.

OMG! I need to get me a copy of that. I haven't read much beyond the Elric saga because My library really sucks ass.

This thread gets an A+ Because I will refer back to every one's recommendations when I need a new read

Wow, talk about ignoring a lot of literature. No LOTR? Hell that's pretty much been the blueprint for most of the fantasy novels written in the past, oh, 45-50 years. No Narnia? What about Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card? Any Stephen King? Robert Heinlein? At least I saw T. H. White's Once and Future King mentioned somewhere. I like Harry Potter just fine, but it's definately not anywhere near the top of the list for the past century. The Da Vinci Code? Don't make me laugh. That book was ok, but would never get anywhere near as much attention as it does if not for the "controversial" content.

Good luck, bloody thing's been out of print for a while. I got it because a my friend's family owned a used bookstore and he regularly sought the rare and odd gems. It was apparent how much acid Moorcock was doing while writing the thing, too....

Not of the last 100 years, but I just got through Njal's Saga a bit ago ...

Great fucking read. Granted, the cultural references of the time period are most likely lost on me, the personal overviews contained more than make up for it. Probably gonna do a little research and re-read it when I understand a bit more so I can get the full depth of the book. May try a different translation as well, as at times, the Cook translation felt a bit askew. I heard the Pallson translation is recommended.
