the uselessness of UM

5150s are some of the best sounding metal amps I've heard. Pods are cool, I guess, but you really can't beat a real tube amp's tone IMO.

But if you want to use a Pod for a live situation it totally makes sense because it'll sound the same night after night and won't be as likely to break down. They most certainly have their place.
 
I had a POD and kinda hated it - but the main advantage of them is being able to get the same sound but *quiet*. If you're just going for a particular sound and don't suddenly need to sound like you're playing through a twin reverb and then a moment later sound like you're playing through a wind tunnel, just get the right amp.
