The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement

Well, you've got to remember that humans are magnificently adaptable creatures. It's really the hallmark of our survival--and to bring it farther back, the survival of mammals in general after the asteroid winter.

Really though, I can't see us ever completely going away any time soon, even in the event of nuclear holocaust or complete climactic catastrophe.

Our financial systems may collapse, social-civil war may erupt, drone and cyber war may kill millions, even a magnetic polar shift may render our entire technological systems useless, but unless some sort of biological warfare kills all humans, at least some of us will survive.

Sure. But it's not so much about just surviving, but rather preserving a world that's worth living in.

I do hope the rapture comes soon and sweeps away the fundies though. Then we might stand a better chance.

:kickass:

If things stayed the way they are now, a possible scenario reminiscent of Terminator would be pretty unlikely, IMO. You know, when we marvel at the grandeur of technological advancement that we never think about it's possilble consequences.

This. Sadly, it would be like the movie Idiocracy where the only people left breeding were the stupid ones and it would just doom the planet even more.

"But it's got electrolytes!!!!"
I confess, Idiocracy really hit me where I live. Safely vaulted away as a mediocre comedy, it's true genius will never be known. Nevertheless, I think we are clearly well on our way to electing President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho, porn star and five-time ultimate smackdown wrestling champion. I, for one, plan on being there when they break ground for the first "Buttfucker" restaurant. While I'm waiting, I just watch Brawndo commercials on YouTube and play Russian Roulette.

That's one of my favorite movies haha, everything in it is so sad and ridiculously true that the entire movie is funny. I know people who think it's not funny which is sad because the satire is really in your face; if the reason they don't think it's funny is they don't get it then they're probably one of the dumb ones that will be taking over.
