The world of Dune.

I dont like much Sci-Fi stuff...but I do like David Lynch and his version of that novel was a piece of shiat.

Yeah, it's real hard to make a movie out of a book like Dune. There is so much going on. Even the 6 hour miniseries didn't give you a real grasp of the novel. I think the 6 hour miniseries is a great companion to the book though. Alot of the visuals help with understanding some scenes in the book a little bit better.

Does anybody else have an obsession with this masterpiece of a novel, besides me?

Vito,

If you like the scope and scale of Dune, make sure you also check out Alastair Reynolds. He has a series of novels (Revelation Space, Redemption Ark, Absolution Gap and the stand alone Chasm City) which have a very intricate and detailed history developed to support the stories themselves, the interplay of many separate factions of humanity, and the large scale of the novels in terms of galactic space and time covered. They are rich in details and written well, so that they go down quite smoothly, like a good Scotch :)

There are lots of other series that can be recommended, but Reynolds is relatively new and comes to my mind first right now.

Your assignment is to read Revelation Space before Powerfest and then tell me what you think! (Unless you've already read it.)

Also, which came first - your reading of Dune, or your first exposure of To Tame A Land off Piece of Mind??

I'll be sure to check out those books Ken. Dune came before Maiden for me.
