Favela of My Dismay
Good Lord are flights fucking expensive this year. (Fuck gas prices)
I had a $240 flight show up on expedia several weeks back, but that offer disappeared faster than a groupie outside of Gene Simmons locker room. All flights look to be well over $300+ from the favela. Hopefully I can snag a deal within the next two months. Got to get these arrangements rollin'. :heh:

Almost 500 for me, which is cheap to MSP from here. Last year i paid a shit ton for the flight, kinda late, and had to endure a schedule change that dropped me off at the airport at the starting time of the fest. Cab ride was expensive... but i made it atleast.

Still... lots of money dropped that weekend on travel alone, not to mention any other expenses (merch and food mostly)

Feel lucky.

The prices for me have jumped from about $350 nonstop to over $500 for a nonstop flight in the last month or so. I can get a one stop flight for $360 which shouldn't be a problem because I'm planning on arriving on the Thursday just incase there are any delays/bad luck bullshit that would cause me to miss any of the fest.

Watch out if that stop is O'Hare... I'm avoiding O'Hare like the plague this year.

I remember once getting delayed 3 hours at O'Hare.

I love to travel, but it's become such bullshit.

Expect the flight prices to go up, due to gas prices. Some airlines are even cutting their flights. It's going to get harder to book after October.

HC Airfare comparison, Chicago to Minneapolis. Note that these are two major hubs a mere 350 miles apart:

HC II: $139
HC III: $404

No thank you! So I'm taking the MegaBus. $25 round-trip. 7-hour bus ride, should be an adventure. But also a lot cheaper than driving.

I got the same hotel I got for HC II, the Crowne Plaza Riverfront. Walking distance from the venue, walking distance from Great Waters Brewery, and $59/night through Hotwire (was $49/night for HC II, so not bad). Should be able to pull of the entire weekend for less than that $400 airfare!

I think not getting a room at the main hotel is a mistake. Last year half of the fun of the festival was chillin with the bands and other concert goers at the hotel.

Luckily, I'm a bit of an anti-social fucktard. I come pretty close to maximizing my jollies just from watching a band play onstage; hanging out with them doesn't add much more to the package. Don't get me wrong, if the official hotel was a similar deal (nearby and cheap), I'd certainly choose that, but as it stands, its disadvantages outweigh any social advantage for me. Plus, this is exactly what I did for HC II, and if you're telling me that I only experienced half of the fun, then I'm even more happy with my decision. Because doubling the awesomeness of HC II would make my brain melt, and I'd like to avoid that if at all possible.

I've used megabus between Chicago and Mpls., It's good!

It is a good idea to fly in a day (or two) early because mid november is when the danger of the first blizzards become a factor. Weather delays are a bitch when it comes to airline bookings. :zombie: (not to freak you out or anything....)

Airfare is significantly cheaper now than the last time I checked, woohoo. But yeah, weather delays are what I fear, especially when coming back. I'll still be fairly new at the job I'm about to start, and having to be late or miss the entire Monday due to a weather delay would suck. A lot.

I made the mistake of booking my arrival date for Friday (cause I'm a dumb ass), so I called to change it to Thursday and they want to charge me $145 just to change it to the day before. Crazy!!!

I'm looking into the flights. I just may go with the nonstop flight over the one with the stop-over. I hope to get all things booked by the end of the week.
