i downloaded some Theatre Of Tragedy songs
i heard it and thought "hey this is nice"

then, i searched for the lyrics on the internet...

are you sure it's english????? :confused: :confused: :confused:

(examples):
"...Gaunt and gnarl'd
Reflecteth the silver shield this welkin aghast,
And with haste translateth to gild'd black post and fast..."

"...Purvey my ache and quench my profoundest urge,
And to thee will I sing the lull-dull dirge;
Deliver thy blood like the rill filleth the ghyll.
Burrow to the trothplight with Night and Devil! ..."

i agree -- so many of those doom/goth bands turn me off with all that wannabe-shakespeare bullshit. i have theatre of tragedy's aegis, and i just can't listen to it except as background noise.

Actually, Theatre of Tragedy's first (and self-named) album handles the archaic/poetic language very well (says the linguistic).

Yep, Raymond I Rohonyi (the male voice / lyricist) has studied english language a lot and thus it really IS Shakespearean language he used on the albums up to Aégis. Sadly, they went far downwards on Musique, both lyrically and music-wise, IMHO.

The best ToT-lyrics, though, are definitely the parts taken from Vincent Pryce's "Mask of the Red Death" on song "And When He Falleth" from the album Velvet Darkness They Fear - creepy stuff!!

I used to be a regular on their wwwboard some years ago - oh, those were the times...
