this drummer.........holy crap

Wow, how weird that you just posted this. I just happened to be downloading a bunch of drum solo videos yesterday, and this kid is one of the ones I downloaded. I could not believe what I was seeing OR hearing, this kid is amazing!! :notworthy

....and I'd never heard of him until yesterday. Yes, I agree, it was a little depressing watching him play. :(

Sorry, not at all impressed. His technique is a mess. He just hits things with no rhyme or reason. Sorta like Portnoy. :) And there's a reason no one else ever hit the high hat from the underside.

I saw this kid play a few years ago, when he was 8 or 9. Incredible!

While we're on the subject of drummers, I had the opportunity to see two incredible drummers last Friday night at HOB (Tommy Clufetos with Ted Nugent - he's only 24 - and Eric Singer with Alice Cooper). These guys were absolutely amazing and played some amazing stuff!

I know most of you reading this may not have yet been born when Ted Nugent and Alice Cooper were in their musical prime, but they were very, VERY good and VERY professional! HOLY CRAP indeed! The performances surpassed my expectations by far!

Alice Cooper I can appreciate, but Ted Nugent?! I could never understand why this guy had a career. I remember watching this hour-long special on his life story on some TV show, and they were playing his "hits" in the background. His claim to fame is "Cat Scratch Fever", what a joke.

I don't know, am I the only one who feels this way about Nugent? I'll admit, I haven't heard too much of his stuff, other than what's been played on the radio, etc. I don't mean to offend any Nugent fans, just stating my opinion here. But if you ARE a fan, maybe you can recommend some of his better songs to me so I can be fair in judging his music.

An awesome guitar player to say the least. I don't agree with all of his politics but he make-um good music. Where to start Jackie...

Dog Eat Dog
Great White Buffalo
Journey to the Center of the Mind (when he was with the Amboy Dukes)
Paralyzed
Free For All

Glad to see that I'm not the only one who feels this way about Mr. Nugent. I saw him three times when he was opening for Kiss on the Farewell Tour and I thought that I was missing the joke or something. He is quite the interesting character, though and always makes for a great interview whenever he's on the Howard Stern Show.

Personally, I think the best version of Cat Scratch Fever was done by Pantera.

What I meant was that Nugent was a great entertainer. The way his set was put together was very professional. The guy didn't take one sip of water during his entire set!

Yes he's wacky but that's why people keep seeing him. Again, he had an incredible band (Tommy Clufetos, Barry Sparks). He's not too technical of a guitarist but he does play like he means it! Much better than what the young idiots trying to "revive" the classic rock style are doing: getting fucked up beyond comprehension onstage and destroying their gear at the end of the show. I was never a big fan of Ted Nugent anyway, but this show was entertaining. I didn't rush out to buy a shirt or all his CD's, however....

His politics are a bit over the top but I don't take the guy seriously, although I am fed up of the p.c. idiots as well . . .

How did this turn into a Nugent post? Anyway, seen him a bunch live and always an entertaining set. Still a good player. Sure he's out spoken, but no more so than Tom Morello and Eddie Vedder. I always went to see him play, although he can be pretty funny too.
First 2 albums and Double Live Gonzo are must have for Nugent fans.

yeah but Morello and Vedder have NO SENSE OF HUMOR!! BTW: their bands DO have great DRUMMERS! (back to initial discussion)

You're right, Morello and Vedder don't have a sense of humor and are whiners, unlike Nugent who takes flak with a grain of salt. I love Matt Cameron, but prefer him in Soundgarden. I've never liked Rage Against the Machine, don't care how good that guy is.

Back to young drummers. . .

I think before Royster, Jr. there was a kid named Jacob Armen who was another child prodigy drummer. Anyone know what happened to him?

I think these kids are naturally talented. All the practicing in a lifetime wouldn't help my sorry ass . . .

Drumslut, you kick butt!

I still cannot download this damn file!!!! It just sits there and says ...."connecting.........." and never goes anywhere. I'll keep trying.

Hey, I see you used your new DW snare at the Canes gig. When's the debut of the COMPLETE set?

YES!!!!!!!! Good observation! I used it at Kozmos and Canes! I LOVE IT! I love my other snare too, but they are just so different in their own special ways! I still have to get me some drum cases before I can start playing out with the new babies! BUT I think I am going to use them in a session next week and transport them in blankets and towels! :Spin:
