Let's look at this legally..... Again, not that that is going to bring back a part of her body, but she should at least be compensated for the rest of her life by him/his family. Yes, his family too. If a family raises a child that throws a bomb at someone ON PURPOSE, they deserve to be punished. We don't know all the facts, so it may actually have been just an accident.

The only way that the parents could be legally liable, is if the defendant was a minor when the crime was committed.
If he was over the age of 18, or emancipated, the family is not legally responsible for his actions any longer.

It would also be unfair to blame them for the actions of someone that should know better. The best parents in the world could raise a piece of shit like this guy. It doesn't mean that they were bad parents, it just means that the criminal is a worthless piece of shit that should get what he deserves (come on, you know that it was most likely done by a guy).

Personally, I don't think anything physical should be done to him until he gets to prison. There could always be some legal loophole or technicality that could get him a reduced sentence, or even have the case thrown out.
Once he's locked up, you could only imagine what would be done to him by other inmates, which would probably be much worse than anything anyone else (that isn't a close friend or relative of the victim anyway) would do to him.
