Those of you not making the trek to Vegas...

full verdict tomorrow... What I've seen looks great:hotjump:

Hopefully you'll like it more than the OC Weekly. They slammed it.

Sounds right up my alley...

I've heard it compared to The Evil Dead... sooo once that came out, I said "I'm SOLD!"

"Yet another genetically deficient inbreeding of The Evil Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Night of the Living Dead, this time with an ebola-like virus(rather than zombies or cannibals) as the carnivourous culprit...Cabin Fever never takes itself seriously enough to be considered alongside Danny Boyle's superior 28 Days Later, or reaches the heights of Raimiesque splatter-slapstick to which it clearly aspires. The result is something neither scary nor funny (despite the fleeting pleasure that comes from seeing the uniformly obnoxious characters meet their maker), but marked with a self-satisfaction that permeates every corner of the film like its own contagion. Roth seems convinced that he's made the horror movie to end all horro movies, and in that he is mistaken"

OC Weekly Vol. 9 No. 2 September 12-18, 2003

I believe the words are caveat emptor. :)

True, nowhere near as good as 28 Days Later... But very funny...

You have to be a horror movie fan to like this movie...
You have to be familiar with the rules of a horror movie to like this movie... I enjoyed it (Maybe because I haven't had that much sleep over the past week... dunno)

The good:

It was funny... there are homages (cliches?)to just about every classic splatter-fest in celluloid...
Pretty bloody (but 28 Days Later was goriest(sp?) in my opinion)
The ending's pretty good...

The Bad...
Even for a horror movie, some of the actions of the characters, come out of left field... WAY OUT OF LEFT FIELD... Example... Rider Strong's character (ok, whoever named this kid watched too much porno) turns into the poor man's Ash (Bruce Campbell) in less than a New York Minute... having gone through a lot less than the other guys... Then, there's another scene where 2 of the characters start to have sex, just because they are depressed and think they are going to die...

Wow, I didn't know Bubba Ho-Tep (starring Bruce Campbell) showings were going to be so limited. :(
I hope it comes out on DVD.

I saw Bubba Ho-Tep in February at the Egyptian... met Sam Raimi..
Awesome movie

Wow, cool! Did you get to talk to Sam long? What was he like?

The only time that I met a film producer was in the early 90's. I got to chat with Charles Band of Fullmoon Pictures (back when Paramount Pictures was still backing him financially and they were still making great B-horror flicks).

So, what is deal with Bubba Ho-Tep's limited showing? Please don't tell me that no major film companies would pick the movie up. Bruce Campbell is the man, and his movies are far better than the majority of crap that Hollywood releases now-a-days.

Yeah, no distributor would bite, even though Bruce is the man... he had a book that was huge and a rabid fanbase
Bubba Ho-Tep had been in the festival circuit, getting rave review after rave review for well over a year before American Cinemateque (the company that runs the Egyptian) picked up some very limited distribution...
Sam Raimi was super humble. My little sister gave him a hug... he was the sweetest guy. I wish I could have met Bruce Campbell, but he didn't come out after the Q&A... Don Coscarelli did, but he had everyone around him...
Reggie Banister from Phantasm (he has one of the funniest parts in Bubba Ho-Tep as a hearse driver) was there and so was The Tall Man... The Egyptian is one cool place to see movies
