... thoughts on there new album

I've been MIA with the metal scene because of uni, but i can't beleive my ears but symphony x have gone soft/prog. I used to worship their material and painstakinly practiced michael romeo's guitar guides over and over. Well the song writting is impeccable- i'm gonna shelve the album with kayo dot, isis, porcupine tree - depending on when i need to pull it out.

I know bands grow and change their sound, but is there any hopes of SX going back into the speed metal forray?

The Odyssey is definitely their heaviest album to date. Ask anybody who posts in this forum. They'll all say the same thing. And speaking of Communion and the Oracle, there were plenty of ass kicking songs on V also. Evolution obviously, Bird Serpent War, A Fool's Paradise, yeah. Come to think of it, all their albums are heavy and ffast as a mofo.

1. As other forum members have said, The Odyssey is SymX's heaviest cd to date, so 'soft prog' is not a legit description of it. I'd ask if you were sure you heard The Odyssey, but none of SymX's cds have been 'soft prog', so I have no idea what you may have heard..but it wasn't SymX.

2. SymX has never played speed metal, so the odds of them 'returning' to it are quite slim, I'd say.

3. Lay off the insults, folks..not everyone who doesn't agree with you is immediately a troll. Granted, the comments trickae made were way off base in regard to SymX, but ya'll have been a lot crappier in here than he/she was.

Odyssey was so in your face. It crushes with some smoking riffing right off the bat. Crunchy goodness that blew a lot of people away during their recent jaunt on Gigantour.

if you need a little more proof, perhaps you should take some digital footsteps to http://www.symphonyx.com/audio.html and inspect a couple tracks. I know it cant be that difficult with "soft/prog" smoothness like King of Fucking Terrors and Inferno.

Give it another shot. No really, do it so I know you actually got the right tracks to make your final judgement.

Somebody could have misinformed him. We could have easily said, "Actually, according to Romeo, it is going to be their heaviest/darkest album to date, or at least on par with Odyssey in that context."

Also, Porcupine Tree are awesome for a change from the heavy.

Did you even read the rest of my post? I said it's circumstantial and by nature is only good in the context of everything else about this guy. Naturally, you/she isn't/aren't spouting off obvious inflammatory remarks while being an obvious Opeth fangirl while having a post count of less than 20 AND being a PT supporter, are you? No!
